    Hi All

Thought i would pop along to get your thoughts on the opening fixture for our respective Clubs and a few more questions to boot, all answers (within reason lol)will be posted on avillafan.com's Forum for members to discuss

    1. Congratulations on your promotion back into the Premier League, How well equipped are West Ham to avoid the relegation zone in the coming season and what needs to be done to ensure that?

    2. Andy Carroll has been heavily linked with West Ham this summer, do you think a deal could be done to bring Carroll to the Hammers and how would you feel about that?

    3. How do you feel about the situation surrounding your hoped move to the Olympic Stadium? and Barry Hearns conduct in paticular during this saga?

    4. How do you feel about Aston Villa as a Club and our Fans?

    5. Aston Villa have been having a torrid time over the last 2 seasons narrowly avoiding relegation by a mere 2 points, but with the appoinment of Paul Lambert things seem to be turning round, what are you thoughts on Lambert and what Villa can accomplish under his guidance?

    6. Villa new Boys Karim El Ahmadi, Brett Holman and Ron Vlaar look to be great signings so far, if you could sign any 2 players from Villa including the ones i have mentioned who would you choose?

    7. Who are your picks for the top four and bottom three this season and why?

    8. Who are you looking forward to play the most and why?

    9. Which player do you think will cause Villa the most trouble during the match? and which Villa Players are you concerned about?

    10. Finally, Match predictions!

The best response will be published on our main site page and cockneyboys will get full credit as will the contributing Members!

Thanks in advance and i wish you all the best for the coming season!! with the exception of two games of course!

    1. Congratulations on your promotion back into the Premier League, How well equipped are West Ham to avoid the relegation zone in the coming season and what needs to be done to ensure that? From pre-season reports not very well equipped, we are starting to worry quite a bit, but I think we would be doing that anyway, its the West Ham way.

    2. Andy Carroll has been heavily linked with West Ham this summer, do you think a deal could be done to bring Carroll to the Hammers and how would you feel about that? No, he's not coming to play for us, unfortunately, because with the way BFS sets us up I think lady-boy could do very well for us.

    3. How do you feel about the situation surrounding your hoped move to the Olympic Stadium? and Barry Hearns conduct in paticular during this saga? Barry Herna is a (insert very rude word of your choice), his conduct has been bordering on comical, he’s after money, nothing else. I don’t want us anywhere near the OS until G&S can prove they turn and athletics track into a football stadium. My fear is that they wont, that it will be multi-functional and we will just have to put up with it.

    4. How do you feel about Aston Villa as a Club and our Fans? I love Villa Park, its one of my favourite grounds, I am ambivalent towards Aston Villa, you aren’t on my shit list put it that way. Your PA man should stop calling you the 12th man, its embarrassing, even in the away end.

    5. Aston Villa have been having a torrid time over the last 2 seasons narrowly avoiding relegation by a mere 2 points, but with the appoinment of Paul Lambert things seem to be turning round, what are you thoughts on Lambert and what Villa can accomplish under his guidance? Had you kept McLeish you would have been relegated, now you have Lambert I think you can look forward to a stress free season. But I cant see you winning anything.

    6. Villa new Boys Karim El Ahmadi, Brett Holman and Ron Vlaar look to be great signings so far, if you could sign any 2 players from Villa including the ones i have mentioned who would you choose? I have no idea who those three are. We'll have any good defender and a goal scorer please, Oh and your goalie.

    7. Who are your picks for the top four and bottom three this season and why? Any of the three promoted sides and Wigan.

    8. Who are you looking forward to play the most and why? Spurs and Chelsea, I love the ‘needle’ matches.

    9. Which player do you think will cause Villa the most trouble during the match? and which Villa Players are you concerned about? I’m not telling you in case you tell Lambert. To be honest I don’t know enough about your lot to say who would be a danger.

    10. Finally, Match predictions! 3-1 to the Cockney Boys.

The best response will be published on our main site page and cockneyboys will get full credit as will the contributing Members!

Thanks in advance and i wish you all the best for the coming season!! with the exception of two games of course!

1.) Thanks and I think we have enough experience in our squad to avoid relegation this season and maybe even go on to have a decent season , The only areas that may need improveing are our defence and upfront.

2.)I dont think a deal will be done as Carroll as said he does not want to come to us and I would not be to happy if a deal could be done as In my eyes paying what would a be total of £19m would be a waste of money that could be spent on getting two decent goalscorers instead of another big target man who we already have in Cole for that job anyway.

3.)I do not want us to move to the stadium as Upton Park is OUR home , and as for Barry hearns well I think he is a Aston Villa ask our thoughts on the match.......... 3725042725

4.) I think Villa like west ham are a decent midtable premier league team who may not win many things but will always have great fans who follow them through bad and good times .

5.)Befor last season I had not really heard of Lambert but Seeing what he did with Norwich last season I think Villa could have a good season and poss look to finish in the top 8 under lambert with players you have and the players you have brougght in this summer.

6.)Two players from Villa that I would like west ham to sign are Ron Vlaar and N`Zogbia -
Vlaar because he is a decent CB which is something we lack with only Collins and Tomkins being our best CBs and N`Zogbia because i have always rated him as a very good player .

    7.)Top 4 : Man City , Man Utd , Arsenal , Liverpool Bottem 3 : Wigan , Southampton and West brom
Man City : Dont think I need to say why
Man Utd : They wil always be in the top 4 whatever
Arsenal : Like Utd they will also be in the top 4 whatever and with them bringing in fresh faces maybe this could be the year they win something rofl smiley
Liverppol : Just think that with Rodgers in charge they will finish in the top 4 this year .

Wigan : They also struggle every year so think this will be the year their luck funs out
Norwich : With lambert gone think they will struggle
West Brom : With Clarke incharge think his lack of managerial experience they will struggle big time

8.) The teams Iam looking forward to playing are Tottenham and QPR both for the reasons it will good to beat them and also to prove to Greeno that he was wrong to leave us .

9.) For us think Nolan,Cole,Vaz Te and Maige will cause you problems and for your players agbonlarho,N`Zogbia and poss Irland if he plays will cause us promblems .

10.)First game at Upton Park 3-1 West Ham ( Nolan,Vaz Te and Cole and N`Zogbia for you ) Away game at Villa park 2-1 West ham ( Nolan and Cole and Agbonlarho for you )

And good luck for your season

    1. Congratulations on your promotion back into the Premier League, How well equipped are West Ham to avoid the relegation zone in the coming season and what needs to be done to ensure that?

Thank you! It’s good to be back! As it stands today, ten days before the big kick-off, I do not think we are well-equipped at all. I have been distinctly underwhelmed by the players brought in thus far. I think, overall, we may have gone backwards over the summer and actually have a weaker squad than we had in the Championship. We've lost an excellent goalkeeper in Green, a classy, creative midfielder in Lansbury and pace down the right with Faubert. Green has been replaced by two average, at best, keepers (Henderson and Jaaskelainen). Diame is a more mobile replacement for Bouba Diop and Collins is a replacement for Faye. Maiga is unproven in the Premier League.

At the very least, we need to bring in a creative midfielder in the mould of a Benayoun and a Premier League-proven goalscorer. A right-back and an extra centre-back wouldn’t go amiss either!

    2. Andy Carroll has been heavily linked with West Ham this summer, do you think a deal could be done to bring Carroll to the Hammers and how would you feel about that?

I am sceptical – if it does happen, it will be a very late deal and would only come about if Liverpool make it clear to Carroll that he will not feature regularly and if Newcastle do not come in with a decent enough offer. I think it would be a good signing but, for now, we need to make realistic purchases and not put all our eggs in the Carroll basket – it could derail the first half of our season if we do.

    3. How do you feel about the situation surrounding your hoped move to the Olympic Stadium? and Barry Hearns conduct in paticular during this saga?

I am in favour of a move to the Olympic Stadium IF we can make it a home. We would need retractable seating over the running track and would need to turn the seats claret and blue – the current seats are Tottenham colours! The Olympic Stadium represents a once-in-a-lifetime, gifted opportunity to have a 60,000 stadium – with our London location, we can then look to attract big investors, maybe even the odd oligarch or two and the sky really will be the limit. I love Upton Park but, these days, needs must…

Barry Hearn has made himself a laughing stock at every turn. Had he been wise, he would have teamed up with the West Ham board and offered season-tickets which saw fans go to West Ham one week and Orient the next (West Ham don’t play at home when the Os do, and vice versa), if that’s what some fans wanted to do. What was an excellent relationship between the two clubs has been soured, probably beyond fixing, by his antics. At the end of the day, Stratford is West Ham/Newham territory, not Leyton or Waltham Forest.

    4. How do you feel about Aston Villa as a Club and our Fans?

Unfortunately, I have always associated Villa with our nightmare ‘Mannygate’ when Manny Omoyimni came on as a late sub, forcing our semi-final spot in the 2000 League Cup to be rescinded and eventually lost in a replay. As a Kent-based Hammer, I was actually at the game at Priestfield when Manny appeared for Gillingham, while on loan, against Bolton to make himself cup-tied – I would have definitely made it known to someone significant that he was cup-tied had I been at Upton Park for our quarter-final and heard his name on the teamsheet. As it was, I was on an A Level trip to Stratford-upon-Avon and could not attend the game. My joy at hearing the final score was tempered the next day when I saw in the ‘paper that Manny had gone on as sub – I knew we were in trouble hours before it all kicked off!

I also remember Villa fans for the ‘Mellberg game’ – the last day of 2007/08. A great turnout, good atmosphere, sunshine and a 2-2 draw – a good day for all!

    5. Aston Villa have been having a torrid time over the last 2 seasons narrowly avoiding relegation by a mere 2 points, but with the appoinment of Paul Lambert things seem to be turning round, what are you thoughts on Lambert and what Villa can accomplish under his guidance?

Lambert is a good manager – I quite wanted him at West Ham last summer but we had little chance following Norwich’s promotion. I think the top 6 is probably the best Villa could hope for until Randy Lerner dips into his pockets again, but I certainly think he will get you into the top half next year.

    6. Villa new Boys Karim El Ahmadi, Brett Holman and Ron Vlaar look to be great signings so far, if you could sign any 2 players from Villa including the ones i have mentioned who would you choose?

I have to confess I have only previously heard of Vlaar. Given the choice, I would take Darren Bent off you to be the proven Premier League goalscorer that I earlier mentioned we desperately need, and I would also take Shay Given. I am devastated that we have lost Robert Green and do not feel the two goalkeepers we have brought in are anywhere near good enough to replace him. Shay is a top ‘keeper, even accounting for one or two mistakes at Euro 2012.

As an addition, I am pleased we re-signed James Collins from you – he was always impressive for us and I think he epitomises Villa as a club during his spell in the Midlands – great under O’Neill, and steadily declining under Houllier and McLeish. I am confident Allardyce will get the best out of him again.

    7. Who are your picks for the top four and bottom three this season and why?

Man City, Man Utd, Chelsea and Arsenal in the top four. They are all pretty much nailed on really. I don’t think Liverpool have the players to break the top four this year, and I don’t think Tottenham have the manager.

Swansea, Norwich and Reading for the drop. The main reasons for Swansea and Norwich doing so well last year was undoubtedly Rodgers and Lambert. Without them, both will struggle. I think we will struggle unless we bring in quality players in key positions quickly. Southampton, for me, have bought well. Reading have a good manager but I don’t think the ‘spine’ of their team is strong enough.

    8. Who are you looking forward to play the most and why?

Tottenham – we were dreadful in 2010/11 when we got relegated, but still took four points off them! They are our biggest rivals and it will be good to lock horns again.

    9. Which player do you think will cause Villa the most trouble during the match? and which Villa Players are you concerned about?

Hopefully the answer to this will change with a new signing! But, at present, I would say Kevin Nolan. In tight games, which I believe the opener could be, he can make a difference – plus I believe he has history of doing well against your lot in a first home game after promotion, scoring twice in a 6-0 win for Newcastle in 2010?! Carroll scored a hat-trick that day so I guess you’d better hope we don’t actually get him too!

Darren Bent is the biggest worry but N’Zogbia always seems to do well against us, as does Agbonlahor, although I believe the latter may be injured?

    10. Finally, Match predictions!

I’ll go for a tight and cagey 1-1. Good luck to the Villa for the season.

    1. Congratulations on your promotion back into the Premier League, How well equipped are West Ham to avoid the relegation zone in the coming season and what needs to be done to ensure that?

Thank you. It feels good to be back. However, with the current squad, it would be a miracle if we stay up. We have lost a steady keeper in Green and replaced him with a 37 year old who could not get a game for a relegated Bolton side and a young inexperienced keeper in Henderson. We need a right back, at least one experienced centre back, a creative midfield player and a proven goalscorer to stand any chance of survival

    2. Andy Carroll has been heavily linked with West Ham this summer, do you think a deal could be done to bring Carroll to the Hammers and how would you feel about that?

A deal for Carroll could be done between the two clubs but the fact remains that Carroll does not want to join us permanently. The only possibility is that Liverpool do not include him in their 25 man squad thereby forcing him out on loan. We may get him then. He would certainly suit Allardyce's style of play that is for sure

    3. How do you feel about the situation surrounding your hoped move to the Olympic Stadium? and Barry Hearns conduct in paticular during this saga?

I love the look of the Olympic Stadium - for athletics. We would not fill a 60,000 capacity stadium except for a few "marquee" games (Spurs, Arsenal, Chelsea etc). Bearing in mind that there it is not possible to dig down below the surface of the running track (as they did for Man City's stadium) to put tiered seating in, I cannot see how they are going to put retractable seating in that tapers from front up to back. If our owners (and Westfield) have concrete plans to oversome this then from a revenue point of view and for attracting sponsors etc it has to be the way forward. Personally I would rather redevelop the Boleyn Ground to a 45,000 stadium. As for Barry Hearn he is a deluded wide-boy. If he seriously thinks that true O's fans would defect to West Ham just because we have a pretty stadium then he really doesn't understand football fans. He is only after compensation - from somebody. He is an annoying irritant

    4. How do you feel about Aston Villa as a Club and our Fans?

I am old enough to remember Villa's glory days in the European Cup and great players like Dennis Mortimer, Gary Shaw, Tony Morley, Andy Gray, Tony Daley et al. I love your ground. It is a proper football ground. Big capacity and close to the pitch. I think you would agree that you have underachieved due to lack of funds. I have no feelings one way or the other regarding the Villa as a club. You do play in claret & blue after all ! Your fans are probably similar to ours. Good support - particularly away from home and used to under-achievment year after year !

    5. Aston Villa have been having a torrid time over the last 2 seasons narrowly avoiding relegation by a mere 2 points, but with the appoinment of Paul Lambert things seem to be turning round, what are you thoughts on Lambert and what Villa can accomplish under his guidance?

McLeish was an awful appointment. Not just because of his history with the Blues but because he is a poor manager. His tactics would bore the pants off any football fan. A philosophy of "let's play for a 0-0 and if we sneak a winner so be it" is not good enough for a club like Villa. I was mortified when he was linked with us. I think Lambert is a good young manager. We approached him before we got Allardyce but he signed an extended contract with Norwich. I would have been happy for him to have joined us. With him - coupled with investment from Randy Lerner - you should be able to aim for regular top 6 finishes

    6. Villa new Boys Karim El Ahmadi, Brett Holman and Ron Vlaar look to be great signings so far, if you could sign any 2 players from Villa including the ones i have mentioned who would you choose?

To be honest I have only heard of Vlaar - and even then could not comment on how good or bad he is! I would like to take Shay Given, Darren Bent and Charles N'Zogbia from you. Can't say any other names spring to mind. Hence your poor seasons recently I suppose

    7. Who are your picks for the top four and bottom three this season and why?

Top four - I cannot look beyond Man City, Man Utd, Arsenal and Chelsea. Bottom three -(from) Wigan (as usual) as they have poor players moulded together brilliantly by a bright young manager BUT have lost Rodallega and look likely to lose Victor Moses too. The success of both Swansea and Norwich last season was largely down to the influence of their respective managers. With them both moving on to pastures new I can see them both struggling. As it stands we may be down there too ! The other sides who came up last season have both invested well and have financial backing. Of the two I suspect Reading will struggle the most. WBA are likely to struggle too. It is Steve Clark's first job on his own. Add to that his No.2 the ex-Hammer Kevin Keen and you have the coaching team when we got relegated !

    8. Who are you looking forward to play the most and why?

Spurs. They are a real rival of ours and their fans are deluded because they got into the Champions' League ONCE !

    9. Which player do you think will cause Villa the most trouble during the match? and which Villa Players are you concerned about?

Probably Kevin Nolan as he appears not to be involved and then pops up in the box when needed. N'Zogbia concerns me
as we have two slow full backs in McCartney and O'Brien. Bent concerns me as we have inexperienced centre backs. Maybe Ginge having trained with Bent for 3 years could stop him I suppose

    10. Finally, Match predictions!

Hello Mr Villan, nice to have visitors.

    1) We are weak at the moment, and desperately hoping for some strengthening signings across the pitch before the 18th. Our pre-season has been pretty grim.

    2) I don't want a player that doesn't want to come here, and I suspect there is something not right about the bloke off-field.

    3) I think we will be railroaded into the OS anyway as part of the owners debt reduction plans .At present we could only bank on 35-40,000, so I wonder what sort of atmosphere could be generated in there. But if it was approached with some imagination regarding seating, ticket pricing, etc. to swell the faithful, then it could w**k.
Mr Hearn is like piles - an irritating asshole.

    4) Always respected Villa - class club with history and real fans. Even your Yank owner seems a cut above money-grabbing spivs like the Glazers.

    5) Paul Lambert is a capable and ambitious manager, I think you'll be safe in his hands. Don't expect wonders though, like us you just don't have enough cash to be at the top end consistently.

    6) I would take Bent and Agbonlahor. Although Bent's abilities have been massively over-hyped in the past, he is a proven consistent goal scorer, and if Aggy can get his head right again he undoubtedly has skill and pace ( which at present we do not)

    7) I don't predict - the top end of the PL is all about the size of your bankroll and doesn't really interest me. And as long as we stay up I don't give a monkeys who takes the drop - unless its Spurts of course, in which case there would be dancing in the streets.

    8) Spurts and QPR - if we took the drop but did the double over Spurts then that's a result IMO, and QPR because we need to keep them in their place.

    9) Don't underestimate Nolan - he looks like an over-weight pub player, then suddenly he's in the right place at the right time and the ball's in the back of the net.
And the way we are right at this moment, I'm worried about all your players, I just hope that "Sam has a Plan" and one that actually works.

    10) I don't predict, but I'll be happy with a draw and even happier with a clean sheet.

Guess I took the easy way out and did this after the game... but there's nothing on the telly here so I'm bored...

Our defense is looking better organized than it has done for a while now... which is going to be essential for survival as we still look pretty clueless in midfield and pretty lightweight up front.
Yes, it must have been a bit of a bitter pill to have to watch Collins play so dominantly in the middle of our defense... but as with all these things, it's consistency that will make the difference and here's to hoping he stays injury free and keeps it up.

    2. Andy Carroll has been heavily linked with West Ham this summer, do you think a deal could be done to bring Carroll to the Hammers and how would you feel about that?
A deal can always be done... but that's not to sat it should be. We already have a striker who's not as consistent or as good as he should be (Carlton Cole). why break the clubs finances to bring in another?
Having just watched Pool get schooled by WBA, Carroll didn't look worth the bus fare home, let alone breaking all our transfer records and wage structure. No thanks.

    3. How do you feel about the situation surrounding your hoped move to the Olympic Stadium? and Barry Hearns conduct in paticular during this saga?
The whole thing has become a political football - no pun intended. Not happy in my heart about leaving Upton park (if it happens) but my head appreciates the reality of needing a bigger ground with better transport links if we're to seriously improve the standing of the club.
That being said, I don't like the idea of selling assets just to pay rent to someone and I fear it might have been part of the Daves' plan from the get go to recoup their investment by selling Upton Park. I'm still trying to look favorably on the whole thing but keeping anything to do with an athletics legacy just seems like a load of bollicks.
    Oh, and Barry Hearn? cnut.

    4. How do you feel about Aston Villa as a Club and our Fans?
Villa were the first team I ever watched West Ham play against - you won the first half 2-0, we won the second 2-0 with a great performance from Alan Devonshire.
Villa Park is also one of only a few away grounds i've ever visited.
find it hard to dislike a club that plays in Claret and Blue but beyond that... don't really think about you to be honest.
I think i've only ever met one person from Aston... he was a bit of a tosser... but then you could say that about anywhere in the world.

    5. Aston Villa have been having a torrid time over the last 2 seasons narrowly avoiding relegation by a mere 2 points, but with the appoinment of Paul Lambert things seem to be turning round, what are you thoughts on Lambert and what Villa can accomplish under his guidance?
Lambert did very well last season and I was lookng forward to playing you a lot more before you appointed him. That being said, you were pretty piss poor today and made us look very comfortable.
Seems like he's got his w**k cut out for him and stepping up to the Premiership might not be as easy as he thought it might. Or he might just need to cut out most of your team as no one looked much cop to be honest.

    6. Villa new Boys Karim El Ahmadi, Brett Holman and Ron Vlaar look to be great signings so far, if you could sign any 2 players from Villa including the ones i have mentioned who would you choose?
None. Abgonlawhatsisname is the only half decent player you have. Was pleased to see Collins play well for us today but wouldn't have brought him back cos he looked pretty pants last season.

    7. Who are your picks for the top four and bottom three this season and why?
Top: Man U, Man City, Chelsea - +someone else
Bottom: the three from today look a fair bet - QPR, Norwich, Liverpool

    8. Who are you looking forward to play the most and why?
Anyone we can take three points from... because we need all the three points we can get.
Any of the 'big' teams - because it makes it more likely that we'll be shown on telly over here in the USA, so I'll actually get to see us play.

    9. Which player do you think will cause Villa the most trouble during the match? and which Villa Players are you concerned about?
didn't know before the game... still can't answer it after the game.
I'm most worried about Cole - because he's so inconsistent, Noble because he never really stepped up to the heights he should have... the usual West Ham worries...

    10. Finally, Match predictions!
I never have and never will ever bet against us or think we can't win any game. It's unfair to answer this after the fact but I was expecting a victory and very happy to get one.
