Manchester City play host to West Ham on Saturday aiming to tie up second spot in the table after seeing their Premier League title defence ended.

Roberto Mancini's men saw their slim title hopes finally vanquished on Monday night following Manchester United's 3-0 win over Aston Villa and the Italian will be looking for a response from his players against West Ham after last weekend's disappointing defeat at Tottenham.

City are five points clear of third-placed Arsenal and victory over West Ham will move them a step closer to securing second spot.

West Ham will travel to City knowing they have all but secured their Premier League status after last weekend's win over Wigan took them on to 42 points.

Sam Allardyce's side are unbeaten in their last five games, including draws with Liverpool and Manchester United, and they will be hoping to spring a shock against City.

The game will also see both sets of fans pay a special tribute to former City and West Ham midfielder Marc-Vivien Foe - who died 10 years ago after collapsing on a football field while on international duty with Cameroon.

Mancini must decide if he wants to take a risk on David Silva's fitness before finalising his side. The Spanish playmaker missed the defeat to Tottenham with an ankle injury and City have the FA Cup final in mind.

James Milner is hopeful of proving his fitness after being forced off with a hamstring injury at half-time at White Hart Lane.

Sergio Aguero is pushing for a return to the starting XI from a hamstring injury after being an unused substitute against Tottenham as a precaution

West Ham are without defensive pair James Tomkins (calf) and George McCartney (knee) for the trip to the Etihad Stadium.

Midfielder Mark Noble could begin his first game since February after making

two successive appearances from the substitutes' bench.

Midfielder Joe Cole, who also came off the bench against Wigan last weekend

following his recovery from a hamstring problem, may make his first start since

Manchester City and West Ham fans are hoping to honour former player Marc-Vivien Foe, who died 10 years ago, when the two sides meet on April 27.

The Cameroon midfielder collapsed during the Confederations Cup semi-final against Colombia on June 26, 2003 and passed away shortly afterwards despite attempts to resuscitate the 28-year-old.

Foe, who also had spells with French sides Lens and Lyon, died following a cardiac arrest. He had the same hereditary heart condition (hypertrophic cardiomyopathy) which caused former Bolton midfielder Fabrice Muamba to collapse on the pitch last year.

Muamba thankfully survived but later retired from the game.

West Ham signed Foe for a club record of £4.2million in 1999 before returning to France with Lyon in 2000. He then joined City on loan in 2002 and scored nine times for the club from midfield in his sole season in Manchester. He was the last City player to score at Maine Road
    .
The club have since retired the No 23 shirt that Foe wore during his time in the North West.

One City supporter came up with the idea to pay tribute to Foe when the two sides meet in little over a week's time.

Although it is another two months until the 10-year anniversary of Foe's death, fans believe the match between his two clubs later this month is the most appropriate available to honour his memory.

On an unofficial club forum, the idea for both sets of fans to stand and applaud for one minute after 23 minutes at the Etihad Stadium has been suggested.

Word is being spread on Twitter under the hashtag #RememberFoeOn23.
The post on mcfcforum.com read: 'On the 27th April, City host West Ham United in the league. How fitting would it be to have the entire stadium applaud and celebrate Foe's life for one minute in the 23rd?

'I am here to ask you all to spread the word amongst your fellow Citizens and Hammers fans. Many of you will not be aware, but there was to be a City v Lyon/West Ham XI game but for reasons unknown it was cancelled.

'That would have been a fitting tribute, but now we as fans, together, can perform our own.'

The Marc-Vivien Foe Fund, aimed at financing research on cardiac arrest, was launched in November 2010 and was backed by the footballer's widow, Marie-Louise.

Dont remember Marc-Vivien Foe playing for us maybe to do with the fact I was only about 12 but I`am sure both City and our fans will remember him during today`s game,Cant see us getting anything from today`s game but not fuss not much if we lose today as we are pretty much safe now with 42pts on board and with Newcastle and Reading still to play Smile
I would if I was BFS start with 4-5-1/4-3-3
    Jussi,Demel,Collins,Reid,O`Brien,Jarvis,Nolan,Diame,Noble,J.Cole,Carroll
    BENCH:Henderson,Taylor,Pogatetz,O`Neil,C.Cole,Vaz Te,Collison

I`am going to say 3-1 City with Carroll or Nolan getting our goal Sad

Obviously I'm happier with the result than you guys. You were the better side for large parts of the second half.

Nice touch with the MVF tribute I thought. Well done to BOTH sets of supporters! clap

just couldn't manage to get up at 4am to watch this game live then turning on the telly, the ESPN ticker nicely showed me the result before I could press 'play' on the DVR... so all round a bit of a crap morning.

shame we lost... we got decent results recently when only having 39% of the possession so shame to see us fail to pull something out of this one.

But fortunately other results went in our favour and we seem stuck in the fairly respectable position of 10th in the table with some winnable games on the horizon.

Felt this did show up the difference between our players and theirs.
They were aware of what was around them. Ours not a clue and just make wrong decision.
Shows you the type of players we need.

Was a good, if long, day out. Up at 3.30am, at Upton Park at 4.30am and on the coach, leaving at 5am. An hour's stop-off between 7.45am and 8.45am at a service station in Cannock and at the Etihad at 10.30am. A very impressive stadium, they've really made it their own. Pictures from their history cover the exterior of the stadium, telling the story of the club as you walk round it. A family area with a band playing too. Exciting if we can do similar with the OS. Great programme as well - every story inside had a West Ham link - six pages on Marc Vivien Foe (no hyphen between Marc and Vivien I learnt from a City writer who interviewed the big man himself); an interesting interview with Ian Bishop; a 4-page piece with Billy Bragg; a very insightful interview with Kevin Horlock; four pages on more players who've played for both clubs; as well as the usual section on the visitors, spread over an additional 7 pages. Plenty to interest all supporters and all for £3 - much better value than our £3.50 dross.

Great stadium (my first visit), good view, 10 rows back from the front, between the edge of the penalty area and corner flag. Was impressed again by how we stayed in the game against a top side and even took the game to them in the first 15-30 minutes of the second half. So impressed with our lot this season - we've only been hammered by Arsenal this season. We've drawn with City (and had a perfectly good goal ruled out for offside), beaten Chelsea, should have beaten United twice (another poor linesman decision costing us victory in one game) and only lost by the odd goal up there on two occasions. Previous West Ham teams have capitulated so often, this team is made of much sterner stuff. Will stop there, as there are still three games left!

A good performance and a few of us did the Poznan after the big man scored! Back on the coach and back at UP by 7.15pm. Long day, no points, but pride still intact. A pride that has been firmly restored by Big Sam over the last two years.

It's the celebration City fans do where they turn their back on the pitch, put their arms round each other's shoulders and jump up and down - a celebration they picked up from the fans of Lech Poznan during a Europa League game in Poland.
