Well it's not a medical in the sense they run you through the paces, make you lift weights and stuff, they make sure you have no diseases and stuff which could stop you from playing, things like diabetes have to be monitored and checked, blood levels, oxygen levels etc.........A football club knows that a player is fit as he has been playing for x amount of years, what they want to see is that there is no tendonitis, no inflamations, no underlying illnesses etc.....When the doc is satisfied that his bodily functions are normal, irrespective of his current injury then he will agree all is good.......Remember when Van Nistelrooy signed for united before that he got injured, United still agreed to purchase him but wanted his clubs medical staff to treat him as they knew him better and could get him back into the game quicker.

Re: Carroll signs
what's not to get excited about?
he might not be the greatest striker ever... it might be a lot of money...
but...
it's a way better option than having Carlton Cole as our leading striker force
and we've played a lot better with him than without him.
now if we can only get someone else to play up front with him... we might actually stand half a chance...

Re: Carroll signs
So Carroll is a Hammer , I`am not happy about what he is on a week but at the end of the day if we are to become a decent premier league and want to attract decent players then we are going to have to start paying silly wages like this ,
So our line up so far looks like this maybe :
Jaaskelainen,Demel,Collins,Reid,Rat,J.Cole,Noble,Diame,Nolan,Jarvis,Carroll

Re: Carroll signs
Not a bad line-up eh Arran?
However, I would like to see a younger less-injury prone right back, another creative midfield player and a proven goalscorer. Now THAT would be a decent line-up !!

Totally agree tone, and I'm sure thats what bfs and the daves will be looking at.
Any thoughts on who might fill those 3 spots ( gk already sorted).

Re: Carroll signs
Great signing as and when it comes off - real show of intent and a massive display of support and backing for the manager. Big Sam said he wanted him and the Daves have (almost) made sure they've got him. Have to admit that I never thought we'd pull it off permanently when we signed him on loan last August. We're signing a current England striker who scored in our last major international tournament and is only 24 years of age. Fantastic.
However, Carroll was part of our team last season and therefore we still need to kick on and add to improve even further. I would like to see us bring in Rhodes from Blackburn. I'd also take back either Defoe from Tottenham or Ba from Chelsea (on loan) - both seem surplus to requirements if press stories are to be believed.
In non-striking areas, I think Rat will take the left-back spot and I'd move O'Brien to right-back. I thought Joey had a more than competent season last time out and I'm not a big fan of Demel. I'd love Scotty Parker back if Tottenham decide to let him go - would give us decent options in midfield and still has enough to offer. I am not happy that we've missed out on Maarten Stekelenburg from Roma, who has signed for Fulham - I think he would have been a fine buy at £3m. We've signed Adrian but I know little about him.

Just in time to order your nice new shirt with Carroll 9 on the back

West Ham United are delighted to announce the signing of England international[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] from Liverpool.
Carroll joins the Hammers on a six-year contract, with an option for a further two in the Club's favour, for an undisclosed, Club record fee after enjoying an outstanding 2012/13 season on loan at the Boleyn Ground.
The marquee signing represents a significant step for the Club as they prepare to move to the 54,000-seater Olympic Stadium in 2016, with Carroll set to play a central role having committed his long-term future to the Hammers.
The 24-year-old England international, who will wear No9 for his new side, netted seven goals for Sam Allardyce's team as West Ham made a strong return to the Barclays Premier League by finishing tenth.
The forward's committed and eye-catching displays in claret and blue quickly established him as a firm favourite among Hammers supporters and he is already looking forward to performing in front of the same adoring fans come the start of the 2013/14 campaign.
"It's fantastic for me to be here. I really enjoyed last season, and that shows in me coming back and making it permanent," said Carroll.
"The fans, the lads and the Club itself has been great to me, and what I wanted to do was come back here and play football.
"Since the end of the season I've had a lot of time to think, I've missed it and that's why I'm back. Getting promoted the season before last, then finishing where we did - we did great, and it can only get better for us.
"The way the Club's being run, obviously getting the new stadium and everything like that, it's only going up."

Good, that was settled a lot quicker than I expected. That's Plan A sorted regarding our attacking options - so what's Plan B going to be?

Dunno where a second striker would leave Nolan though. I think he's too lightweight to play in the centre.
