Sugar Hut in Brentwood, made famous by the TV programme The only way is Essex..........apparently the only place to be nowadays!

James got away very lightly in my opinion

A Premier League footballer has been fined for assaulting a police officer outside an Essex nightclub.

West Ham defender James Tomkins, 25, was refused entry to the Sugar Hut in Brentwood on 21 December last year, and security staff called police.

Tomkins pleaded guilty to assaulting a police constable, being drunk and disorderly in public and obstructing a police constable.

He has been fined £3,500 for the assault.

    'Blot on character'
Chair of the bench at Southend Magistrates' Court, Martin Everett, told him: "It is a late guilty plea but it has saved the court a trial and witnesses".

"This is a blot on your character," he said.

He added he had "no doubt" that West Ham " will take their own action" to punish him.

Tomkins, of Hutton Mount, Shenfield, was also ordered to pay £3,785 in court costs, £200 compensation to the police constable and a £120 victim surcharge.

He is following in a long line of Hammers players behaving like twats when out socialising.  Tricky Trev's Starsky & Hutch roll & Ruddock's bottle throwing for starters.  & who was the ginger Aussie who took a piss at & on the nightclub bar?

    Robbie Slater.

Just young men-always get a nob amongst them. Not condoning it - never had any trouble but people do and no reason a multi-million pound lifetime earning potential will subdue that behaviour; quite the opposite I'd say.

He has, as you said, got off very lightly. I have no hesitation to say if that was Joe Public, the situation would have been very different (a ten month gap between offence and this stage would never happen) Plus the fine is a pittance and I am afraid to say he is probably pissing himself (rather than a door way) at the loss of a few hours earnings. Wonder if I'd have been fined £22 quid for it???

Assaulting the old bill used to put you in serious trouble years ago, has it become that commonplace now that it carries a slap on the wrist?
    Genuine question

Compared to the charges against Ravel Morrison this is nothing really is it? Obviously it is regrettable but let's not get carried away eh?

Yep, definetly the "wet bus ticket" scenario. Lucky lad, and yes it would have been heaps different were it you or I. Reckon Rav won't see the same leniency.

Did anyone see Neil Ruddock on "Can't pay - We'll take it away"?    What a cock!

    • He has a £3000,00 debt to dog kennels outstanding.
    • His wife's behaviour, in front of their little girl was atrocious. Gob like a sewer.
    • When Ruddock finally arrived he asked the bailiffs twice if they knew who he was
    • Made an agreement to pay and kissed the bailiff Toilet
    • A month later, with no payment, was given notice to pay or face bankruptcy.
    • Ruddock is now saying that the debt was written of when he was declared bankrupt in 2011.

If you want a look, it's on at the beginning of the programme ....
