    The England 23

Post  alfiehammer on Tue May 13, 2014 5:26 am

Well it's been named. No big surprises for me, except maybe Michael carricks axing from the squad. Other Man U player not included is tom cleverly and that at least proves Roy doesn't just pick on club sides but form- I think his team today proved that.

Carroll on the reserve list. Feel sorry for Andy but not surprised. Hasn't played enough nor scored enough. That said, he's a fupp of a better player then welbeck.

I'd say he is arse-hole lucky to even be on the reserve list. Not at all justified on form-just a big lump to am at if Lambert withdraws.

Hope he doiesn't go anyhow-he'll only get injured.

Just keep your England expectations as low as your west ham and enjoy the pretty football played by the South American and Spanish teams

I think we'll surprise a few people this tournament.

I haven't decided how yet but I envisage elderly prostitutes involved.

No real complaints with the 23. Don't agree with a keeper (Fraser Forster) from a pub league getting in ahead of a Premier League keeper (John Ruddy). Ashley Cole unlucky to be omitted but I suppose we have to look to the future with Luke Shaw. Would liked to have seen Michael Carrick in the squad. Knows how to keep possession; something that will be critical in that heat and humidity. James Milner is a typical Hodgson player; runs around a lot and gets back to help out but gives you nothing going forward. Lambert deserves his place, as does Adam Lallana

The standby list just highlights to me the lack of available English players currently playing in the Premier League. John Stones has only played 21 games for Everton yet gets the nod ahead of a consistent PL performer like James Tomkins who has 157 appearances for West Ham and has played for England at every level up to U21

Andy Carroll has done nothing to earn a place either in the 23 or the standby squad. Peter Crouch has had a better season and would be a better bet IMO
Defoe is playing in a pub league in the USA. As for Tom Cleverley - if that is the best we have then gawd help us

I have no expectations from this World Cup other than to give a decent account of ourselves. If we get to the quarter finals it will have been a success. All the young players will have had a taste of tournament football in oppressive conditions and will be hardened for the Euro qualifiers and Euro 2016

Come on England !! british flag

Lambert never let England down on his few performances. Can't see Barkley getting a start if Wilshire is fit.

I said 27 but is 28. Think MH is thinking of Wayne and his preferred age of prostitute.

Yeah I saw that tweet, very dry humour there. I wonder if Andy is really that surprised or disappointed.

I'd imagine he is pretty pleased to be on the reserve list. One twinge or problem with Lambert, and he'll be on that plane.

Actually looking forward to this World Cup as it's about the only one England have got to the finals of, in my memory, without all the silly, over the top hype from the media about how we're going to win it. With the pressure off, I think we could surprise a few people.
