My Leeds forum pal dlw10 was at the match; he said -
What a game and what a night that was! Once in every few years a match gives you absolutely everything! City were by far the better team over the whole 120 minutes I thought and should have put away the chance just before the end of normal time. No worry though, they did us proud and as I keep saying to everyone who will listen, this is a very special City side. We had the lot last night, goals, chances, all those penalties, flares, even a streaker who streaked in a pair of bright red underpants. He came out of the crowd just in front of me, ran around the pitch a bit, and then leapt back over the fence again, just in front of where I was stood. His mates then all gathered around while he crouched on the ground out of sight. His mates then pointed miles away from us telling the stewards he'd gone "over there mate" while the streaked got dressed again and put on a disguise of a red woolly hat! Oh what fun!
The penalties was totally draining - I was a wreck by the end and hope that my tears didn't show on the TV pictures! In a sense, it was the best way the gae could have ended; I was worried all along that the City fans would invade the pitch again like they did up at Scunny and the club had apparently been warned that there would be sanctions if it happened again - had we won I am sure that would have happened. As it was the final Scunny pen was greeted with silence and resignation as it had gone on so long and we had defied the odds at least three times during the 32 penalties by seeing Scunny miss the opportunity to win it. It was just a fantastic, sensible end to the game from all the fans. The main aim for City has to be the league and they are going well in the Conf North, unbeaten since early September - the FAC run was in danger of getting in th way with all the fixures we were having. As it is we still have 7 games in the next 19 days including the next round of the FA Trophy (F C Halifax at home next Tuesday). Magic, magic night and what we all go to football to enjoy. Let's hope Leeds can provide some of the same at Sunderland.
