Not for viewing by the 'Unionists'

    Post  daib0 on Sun Sep 07, 2014 8:38 am

This image is not for people who believe Scotland will remain part of the UK.

That's a 24% swing to yes in a month. First time YES clearly displaces the 'NO' ...

    So ... ?

I liked scotland when I visited and scaled Ben Nevis for charity. Was wicked hot throughout, got drenched in sweat and sun burnt. The views of the mountains reflecting off the lochs were spectacular.

Unless i'm missing some big point, then I could really care either way what the scotch decide to do. The only thing that would bother me is, if like most things in life it seems, they keep all the perks that suit them and dump all the things they don't like the look of so we end up subsidising their independence somehow. It remind me of that episode of only fools and horses when rodney wants to go it alone (involves lawnmower engines)

If they get the split there is one hell of a lot of military personnel , Aircraft, Ships and Subs that will need to come back down inside the boader, Might be good news for the likes of Liverpool and Portsmouth

To my shame I don't really know much about this, so I wouldn't know what they think their advantages would be

What pisses me off though, would be the death of the Union flag   Sad

    I love that flag ......

Legend assigns symbolism to the colours – red: valour; white: peace, honesty; blue: loyalty.

    Blue: loyalty?  Pffft!

My family is half scots, with a name like Murdo not surprising, my wife was born and bred in Edinburgh, I served in the reserve forces for 26 years in a Scottish unit and I dearly love going to Scotland whenever I can. The current situation is caused by Nationalists like the wannabe next King of Scotland, Alex Salmond. Even for a politician he is odious in the extreme, he will bankrupt his country in a decade.

If the Jocks get independence he says they can keep the pound, er no, that decision will be made in Westminster not Edinburgh and Cameron and Clegg (Two more odious characters) have already said that will not happen. He then threatens not to pay the Jocks part of the UK national debt, IMF takes a very dim view of countries that fail to pair their debts, which will cause more problems for the jocks.

Around 10,000 people on the West coast of Scotland will find themselves out of work as the UK submarine fleet and everything else with it goes South. Many other defence jobs will go as the UK pulls it air-force and troops out of Scotland. They will not be allowed to join NATO or the EU straight away as both those organisations have stated that will not happen until they fulfil the criteria to join.

My brother-in-law runs a small hotel on the East coast and is as jockenese as they come, but even he realises that if they break away from the UK they have FA going for them. Oil will run out in 30 years, is owned by multi-nationals and if we wanted to be arsy we could re-route pipelines to Newcastle, the oil is not in Scottish territorial waters, in fact some of it is nearer Norway than Scotland. I fear for them if they get what the Nationalists want. There is already growing news of 'Nationalist' targeting English people and those opposed to the split in increasingly violent ways. That unfortunately is often the way of Nationalism, some one is going to suffer, and in this case it will be English people living in Scotland.

However if they vote yes later this month, then fine. We should pull out everything asap, treat them as a foreign nation, not in the EU, require them to have passports and visas to come to the UK and send back any that are unemployed living in the UK as undisirables. Stop all immigration and put up barriers to them entering our fair country, I think a wall would be good been done before, but taking a leaf out of 'Game of Thrones', this should be 700 feet high, made of ice and have catapults and scorpions on top to keep them out. Basically if they don't want to be part of the UK, fupp em wnakers! Just my IMHO of course

    Interesting Motty
I know from a military point of view that the impact in job loses is going to be massive
including a large data centre up there that would have to be moved back south (they only built the place 2 years ago)
that alone would be 4000 jobs

EU membership could well be thwarted by Spain who have already hinted that they would oppose it as it would encourage Catalonia & the Basque region to go for independence.

Personally I'm a bit like Alfie.  It's their country so let them decide.  However a couple of things have got my back up this week.  I've been having a debate with a Scotch mate on fb regarding the £, which I don't think they should be allowed to continue with.  Britain made a huge effort to stay out of the Euro to keep the £ independent.  Why should they have to risk the economy by having to babysit a new economy?

I also heard a yes person say this week that even if they lose 51%-49%, how will the UK appease the 49% who voted yes?  Well surely that also applies if the result is 51-49 to the yes vote?.

Finally, Salmond's ridiculous claim that this is like the first South Africa election.  He cannot in any way compare an open democracy with what the situation of black of South Africans & quite frankly that statement is insulting to the English especially given the number of Scots who live, work, stand for election in England.

I foresee tears before bedtime for the Sweatys if they buy into the odious Salmond's vanity project, but it's "their" choice,( or rather it's the choice of anyone who happens to be living there at the moment ) so if that's what they vote for let 'em get on with it and put up with the grief.
What does concern me is that if you take all the Scots Labour MPs out of the equation then we are going to be stuck with a built-in Tory majority for a very long time.

Some strange news articles of people claiming they already posted by post and now regret their choices. It all does seem to be very last minute, reminds me of doing your homework that morning in class registration. Some of these facts and statements should have been out their and debated months ago....

I think a lot of the westminster politicians thought it would be a one horse race & under-estimated the emotional pull of being independent.

While all the above is very? funny, there is another side to this that I had not given a lot of thought to. My wife is a jock, born in Edinburgh and she said to me the other night after watching another load of billocks from the odious Salmond that she was genuinely worried about where a yes vote would leave her and those like her living in England. She has lived here for the 35 years, her children were all born here, she does not want to live in Scotland anymore but still has her brother living there. Does she become a 'foreigner'? Does she lose here rights as a British citizen if the country of her birth becomes a foreign country, even though she has no say in how it votes?

While we are all flipentley taking the p**s out of this, it does have major implications for all of us, however we feel, and over 45m of us have no say in what happens next week, and as has been said above, once they vote there is no going back, no room for sorry we got it wrong, and no room for despondent jocks to try and immigrate to England once they are a third world country.
Then we have a potential war with Russia, the very real threat from IS and its supporters when they decide they need to come back to the UK as they don't get benefits in Syria.

At least we still have BFS and West ham to worry about!

Nope, she could almost surely become a double national. I'm already a double national of two European countries, and if Thursday goes through that could become a triple national ... I'm obviously a "Yes" man in the vote, although I was born in the South of England I have plenty of celtic blood - and have felt through suffering English arrogance for decades: when an Englishman says "we in Britain think ..." they usually - nearly always - mean "we in England think". If they're told a different viewpoint they say "on, those Jocks up north b*ggering us about" but not "some British think differently and efficiently". I'm p*ssed off how often they say on European countries' national TV news programmes "The English Foreign Minister", the "English Prime Minister" or "The English Enviroment Office", and I believe this is deliberately coaxed by the influential English in office ...

Then at least you can go and live in the new 'free' Scotland of odious Salmond, I'm sure he will embrace you. I have a feeling that large numbers of English people living there at the moment will be coming south of the border very shortly if they get their 'freedom' from the yoke of English tyranny and then have to start paying for all the things we 'English' have to pay now!! The Nationalists in Scotland are no different than nationalists the world over, its all ways some ones else's fault, and this time its the poor wee Scots that have suffered under the yoke of English oppression (like fupp)

    This is quite worrying.

The scot vote could effect all of us if they vote yes and most of us have no say.

If yes it means our GDP drops by 8% which could effect our balance of payment.

Defence will suffer due to Salmond not wanting to pay properly for a Scottish defence force.

The man and his party are anti English. He has no clue as to what can happen if they have a yes vote.

I don,t want to see them go because I feel we are stronger together but if they do go then we should pull any ship building back inside the UK. Make sure they cannot use our banking systems and withdraw any funding we have up there ASAP.

When it all falls apart on them we should just say, we told you so.

Those of us that have ever started up in business for ourselves know just how much you have to pay out to set yourself up. Salmond and his mates could be just about to find out how much it costs to set up a national government. Just who do they think is going to lend them the money? The rest of the UK? The EU? The IMF?.....Wonga???
