Zarate, a summer signing from Velez Sarsfield, scored against Crystal Palace earlier this season but hasn't been seen on the pitch since the Hammers beat QPR at Upton Park at the start of October.
Now after over a month out, rumours have been suggesting that there is something more to Zarate's absence, especially considering that he's been in the news lately having switched his international allegiance from Argentina to Chile.
However, West Ham co-chairman [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] that there is nothing untoward over Zarate, and that the 27-year-old is simply out injured at the moment.
"Mauro is very much part of the first team squad but there’s no need to take chances on players when so many are fit and available," he said.
"We are in a very strong position at the moment and there is nothing suspicious about this at all. Mauro is a valued player and like many others, really having to challenge for his place in all circumstances," added Gold.

He was an unused sub at Stoke but not included in the squad against Villa

But Nolan and Carroll fit now-Nolan is making the bench on reputation alone.

As Sam keeps saying, knowing the bubble will burst soon, games come thick and fast over December/January and if Zarate (or any) have niggling injuries we have the luxury (through availability and form) of not rushing back/risking people.

Also Downing has been jiggled and filling the role Zarate is probably best suited for.

(Goes to slap oneself for having a half-full glass attitude towards West Ham for the first time in 40 years. Must. Not. Get. Carried. Away)

I Think it`s good that we have player`s like Zarate , RVT etc not making the bench as it show`s we really do have strength in depth this season as people have said it mean`s we no longer have to rush people back into the team - we can take our time with getting them fit and plus its helps with making the players on a whole play better as they know they will be dropped !

I`m sure that once Zarate is fit we will more of him in the team n on the bench especially in the next few months when games come round quick

how can we ever truly know how much of this is real and how much just pure bullshit make up stuff?

I mean who would say - he has a contract for the next three years but you can pick him up for a bargain right now...

It doesn't even make basic sense

That agent can suck Fat Sam's xxxx.. Still won't make Zarate any cheaper..

I hope we can keep him as a back up, but I can't see him playing when the others are fit, so I can also understand why he would not want to stay.
