Unless the guy is something exceptional it will take him half a season just to get fit enough for the squad. I would be happier if our "Plan C" for CB cover was a gnarly old pro with Prem experience. Maybe it's because our last batch of signings turned out so well that I reckon we must be due for some more duds.

Canadia via Cyprus. His pedigree doesn't bode well, certainly not as an instant impact option. Time will tell......

I suspect he will start like Reid did if we throw him straight in at the deep end. However, I don't think that is the plan at all. Ryan Nelsen recommended him to Sam and he has been on trial twice with us. Sam must have seen potential in him. He is one for the future

If Reid goes in the summer which looks increasingly likely then we still need to sign a top, experienced centre back

Really? Not how I read it.

Henry goes straight into Big Sam's first-team squad, and the manager is hopeful that the Brampton, Ontario-born player can force his way onto the pitch before the current season is out.
"Ryan was my captain at Blackburn for a couple of years and he rang us and told us about Doneil," the manager confirmed. "He said this lad definitely has Premier League potential and he has everything he needs.
"With a little coaching from us and work in terms of how to defend in the Premier League, Ryan says he has all the attributes to be a good player.
"We have invested in him for the near future, so we do hope he can make some sort of appearance this season if he settles in and does as well as Ryan thinks he will. If not, we hope he is certainly one for the future."

the fact he is going in to the first team squad and not the development squad would suggest that big Sam is expecting to see him this season, we are hardly in excess of centre backs

based on the quotes above, Sam seems quite clear that Henry, or Donny or whatever we have to call him, is 'one for the future' but it's in his hands if he performs well enough to push for a starting place before the end of the season.

Obviously everything could change if Reid ships out before the end of January...

not sure to be honest, I have no idea what level this lad is, had not even heard of him before even though he has been training with the squad at least twice before signing

It does appear from that statement that Sam does not think he is far off, but what do i know cheesey grin

Not quite sure I have as much faith in Ryan Nielsen as Sam appears to either. Knowing our luck Sam will leave and handpick RN as our new manager like fergie did with moyes Doneil Henry 2901933171Doneil Henry 2901933171
