    confused

Post  Kray JR on Sun Dec 28, 2014 11:25 am

I saw a tweet today by the Moose on talksport claiming
Ian Bishop was the last player to wear the number 6 for us.
Most commented on it actually being Upson that last wore the
number 6 then I saw this on Ian Bishop's twitter feed. Bishop
left the club 10 years before we retired the number 6.

Matthew Upson was the last player to wear the number 6 shirt , The shirt was retired during a special pre-season friendly to the 50th anniversary since Moore made his debut for us - The game was against Villarreal back in ether the 2007/08 or 2008/09 season cant remember exactly which one it was

the plot thickens, Bishop says that he wore 6 in a match at Roker Park after Bobby Moore passed away and then wore number 14 after that.

Maybe he was sub after that match lol

The first West Ham home game after his death was on 6 March 1993, against Wolverhampton Wanderers. The Boleyn Ground was awash with floral tributes, scarfs and other football memorabilia from both West Ham fans and those of other clubs. Fellow 1966 World Cup winners, Geoff Hurst and Martin Peters placed a floral replica of a West Ham shirt, showing Moore's number, '6', on the back, on the centre spot before the game. West Ham 'rested' the number six shirt with the regular number six, Ian Bishop, wearing number twelve. The game was won by West Ham 3–1 with goals by Steve Bull for Wolves and Trevor Morley, Julian Dicks and Matty Holmes for West Ham.[21]

I think they only rested it for that game.

Funny mate, I remeber that game, and fairly emotional it was as well. Great tributes from all. Hurst and Peters clearly moved too.
