Is he now still a West ham player , as I know the club his was on loan at had the option to make it a permanent deal but I`ve heard nothing about that yet , If he should return do you think he should be given one final chance to prove himself under Bilic ?!?

He was only on loan to FC Metz. Metz got relegated and so could not afford to buy him nor pay his (reported) £40,000 per week wages. He has at least one more year left on his contract with us. I think all players will start with a clean slate with Slaven Bilic

Should take Slavan all of 3 minutes to see he needs shifting

Not necessarily. BFS tried to play him as a lone striker to fill in for AC. That is not, or ever has been, Maiga's best position and it showed.

I think we could see quite a few players who didn't get a lot of game time last season appearing in next weeks game.

the fact that we're starting the season in a week, AND doing a pre-season with games against the likes of Bremen, AND have little or no time off before all that starts...

I'd say EVERYONE needs to be given a clean slate and the opportunity to prove themselves (hopefully in a position they can actually play) as we'll need a lot of squad depth to find our feet.

And I agree with Tony... Maiga can hardly be blamed for not shining as a lone striker - no one does at our club, not even Carroll... because when we switch to that formation there is NO support for the front man.

When we did well at the beginning of last season we were attacking with four or five players in the opposition box at a time.

When we switch to the one make up front idea, we have barely four or five of our players in the opposition half.

So no, Maiga is not at fault for the failure, the system doesn't work the way we play it - and for god's sake, I hope Bilic has seen that and doesn't try it.

apparently they decided on the Euro squad and split those players off before Bilic was even appointed.

Billie actually took time out for the Cork training camp to fly back to watch the game while the others stayed in Ireland...

So maybe Maiga is part of the planning for the first team rather than the Euro-Development squad

Maybe, just maybe, he wasn't in the Euro squad as that would have both cup tied him and also committed him to the club for the forthcoming season.

Maybe, just maybe, they're undecided on what to actually do with him. They may well want to have a good look at him in Cork, see what he's made of and then decide whether to keep or off load him.

Hopefully they're doing that with pretty much everyone... isn't that what training camp and pre-season are for?

Wouldn't that theory equally apply with Jarvis and zarate though?

I think the way they split the groups up was the players who were injured or didn't get much game time towards the end of last season would play in the 1st qualifying round and then the rest of the 1st team would join up later after the 1st round

in some ways I hope Maiga does get a chance as a striker , never know he could link up well with sakho or Valencia or zarate

he's in the starting line-up for tonight. so he'll get his chance...

guess a lot depends on how a midfield of Nolan (c), Jarvis, Zarate, Noble will work out

I hate to base an opinion on just a radio commentary but to be honest... this really was the BIG opportunity for Maiga and Zarate to really have a chance to show themselves to the new manager.

Going off the comms, Karate seemed to at least be putting in the effort... and most of the criticism aimed towards Maiga was just not being switched on enough (being caught offsides, etc) and there's really no excuse for that, not when you finally get given a chance to prove you are worth keeping.

Conversely, another one a lot of people wouldn't be sad to see leave - O'Brien - actually seemed to put in a good shift today.

I like o brien. Certainly not an amazing player but played a big part in getting us to the position of a stable premiership team. Happily keep him as back up or wish him all the bets if he did move on.

Sounds like we played a team playing 8-1-1 who just wanted to avoid gettin beat. We lacked a lot of our best starting 11 and lacked some match sharpness. Hopefully both will return to us before the arsenal game (or sooner).

well reading the report on the BBC, Miaga hit the post and "could have had a hayrick" - so I guess everything depends on who you read and who you believe...

of course, I know you all believe and trust my opinion above all others hatsoff
