    Kevin Anthony Jance Nolan

Post  JulianDicksLeftKnee on Thu 27 Aug 2015, 10:07 am

Has gone. Presumably had his contract paid up (£1.5m approx)

I have never made any secret of my personal dislike of the signing of Nolan but I was happy to eat my words. He had all the right qualities and was by all accounts, a great captain - visibly on the pitch (a bit whingey for my liking) but also, by all ac counts, his off field management was even more important.

The job he, and Sam (yes, the Beetlejuice Sam) did for our club EXACTLY what was asked of them and required.

So, back to now. As a self-confessed cynic of Nolan; I cannot make sense of releasing him UNLESS they have 2 or 3 bona fide better names lines up. He was still sub and appeared most games, so he had a worth (we are yet to see who would equate that worth). Yes there is always a time when things have to move but I don't understand why the club have made no (public or visible) attempts to ship him out on a free. Paying up a contract and (presumably) watching him step into a new club makes no sense to me.

I can only rely on the fact we have real 99.999999999999% options lined up. Our squad was looking weak and thin and now looks even thinner. It is a worry.

So Mr Nolan, thank you from a staunch disliker of yourself, I was glad to eat humble pie and unfortunately take no satisfaction in how the club has allowed you to leave. I do think he'll be missed around the club; Noble is not a captain, he shouldn't even be starting in my eyes (that's another story) so where are our leaders in each third and overall??

Watch and wait eh? I have little faith anyone bought in now will be either a major influence and will be just a bit part jobbing baller who has flicked from club to club around Europe or the South Americas with only a few caps and nothing to show as a stable and, most importantly, a step up from what we have.

I would have kept Nolan around for his influence; £1.5m is nothing in football terms. If Nolan wouldn't have been happy with that then they could have tried to ship him out of say "off you trot with none of our cash"

Well said, although I quite liked him originally sell less humble pie eating personally.

Ex employee said something about this happening after an 'incident' but really can't reveal any more !?

    We'll never know.

Good luck Nolan, and thanks for 4 years committed service and goals

Apparently there was an "incident" at training and he asked to leave. We've paid up 75% of his remaining contract, (approx 1.5M). No one saw this coming. Was dealt with very quickly, nothing leaking so far as to what this "incident" was.

We have, as always, irons in the fire, but nothing confirmed or definite.

Going to be a busy weekend I think.

Hopefully not a busy weekend behind the scenes only to be left with we were lucky to get Adebayor at such late notice

anyone of you people who refer to the "incident" actually got the skinny on what happened?

    I don't buy this...

He's the club captain (and the best one we've had in a good few years)

He's still fit enough to be a good covering player for midfield and useful squad depth for cup games, etc...

We are playing shit at the moment...

He's been a good servant to the club - whether you like him or hate him (and everyone knows he's coming to the end of his career, or at least the down turn)

Even if he was told he'd not be guaranteed a starting place (and why would you not have sorted that in the off season) then the player hands in a transfer request and goes to another club...

Something happened and I'd love to know what.

You do not just buy a player our of his contract three weeks into the new season just for shits and giggles...

Rumour is he did not want to sit on the bench and it was mutual that he left

that makes no sense to me...

Billie would already have made that determination before the start of the season, so Nolan would have already had that discussion before the season starts...

Nolan played 4 games already - and I think one sub appearance - we've only played 8 games - including ALL the Euro disaster matches, so he'd been in more than half of all our competitive games...

    And why pay him off?

If he's not happy, tell him he's free to go and someone comes in and buys him...

We handed him a cheque for 1.5 million quid...

    three games into the season...

that makes NO SENSE at all no matter how you slice it...

There are rumours of a training ground "incident" / big fall out with Slaven.

The lack of playing opportunities will be the main story out in the press but I think he was left in no doubt after the "incident" he was Persona Non Grata at the club.

It makes sense to pay him off. "Look Kev, after what happened you can't stay. We appreciate all you've done for the club while you've been here, great club and team captain under Sam and we don't want to sully that. So, how about we pay up 75% of the remainder of your contract and release you and we'll say mutual consent over lack of future game time. You say nothing, we say nothing, everyone wins."
