Charlie Austin returns to the Southampton team on Saturday to face a side that passed up the chance to sign him.
West Ham were among a host of clubs interested in signing the striker last summer but were put off by QPR's £15million asking price, while owner David Sullivan had questioned his injury record.
Southampton snapped him up for £4m in January and after scoring the winner at Manchester United on his debut, he will be hoping to make his first start in front of the Sky Sports cameras on Saturday evening.

    Team news
Austin has shaken off the knock which kept him out of the midweek draw at Arsenal, but full-back Matt Targett will miss out after picking uSlaven Bilic has been boosted in the striking department with both Andy Carroll and Emmanuel Emenike in the squad for the game.
Carroll is fit after missing four matches with a hamstring injury and new signing Emenike's work permit has come through following his loan switch from Fenerbahce.
Sam Byram hopes to shake off a knock and fellow defender Angelo Ogbonna should be fit after a bout of flu, but Manuel Lanzini and Diafra Sakho (both thigh) are still out.
    Opta stats
Southampton have kept three consecutive clean sheets on home soil in the Premier League; they last kept four in a row there in October 2013.
After winning four of their first five Premier League away games this season (W4 D1 L0), West Ham have won just one of the last seven on the road (W1 D3 L3).
Saints have won just one of the last eight Premier League games with West Ham (W1 D4 L3).
The last four Premier League meetings between Southampton and West Ham at St Mary's have ended as draws.p an ankle injury in training.
Midfielder Steven Davis is also a doubt with a hamstring problem.
West Ham haven't won both home and away against Southampton in the same league season since 2000/01.
Fraser Forster has saved all 12 shots that he's faced in his four Premier League appearances since his comeback from injury and is yet to concede a goal in these matches. He has kept 17 clean sheets in 34 Premier League games for Southampton, averaging one every other game for the club.
    Merson's prediction
Southampton are doing well again. I was at the Emirates on Tuesday, they rode their luck at times but they dug in to go a fourth game without conceding. This has the makings of a good game, with West Ham in good form, six points adrift of the top four. They'll have the FA Cup replay with Liverpool on their mind but this West Ham team are a good team.
    PAUL PREDICTS: 2-2

Going to be a very tough game at St. Marys and I`d be happy to come away with a Point , It will be interesting to see who Bilic starts with Upfront today what with Valencia , Carroll and Emenike all fit - I would like to see Valencia n Emenike upfront together today Tbh

Hopefully Austin don't play apart today as he is bound to score against us if he plays just to prove a point to our chairmen

first ten minutes were pretty pants... goal down.

picked it up a little but we're still not really at the races...

nothing happening in midfield and depressing to see we're becoming a one man team of late - if Payet doesn't play well neither does the team... and he's not playing well today.

we had one good chance that required a great save from Soton to keep them in the lead... we're pushing a little further forward and making more of a game of it but we still don't look comfortable...

10 second to the end of the first half...

interesting development... Soon have a player given a straight red for hacking down Payet...

we struggled for a long time before we made the break through against ten men last week... is there time for us to do it against a way better team who are already a goal to the good?

all they have to do is defend and watch our - so far - toothless attacks...

Tomkins has walked off the pitch and called for a replacement - while we're in the middle of bringing Carroll on up front...

So Byram comes on for Tomo

    Carroll on for Moses

    Emenike on for Antonio...

he's had one touch so far... good header from a cross by Valencia...

no one's playing balls into Carroll for some reason...

not looking like we're going to salvage this one...

    15 minutes to go

No urgency, cannot seem to make any chances.

Did,nt rate Song ..........Valencia was trying for row "Z" most of the game ( rings a bell ) , Noble done well , Saints ruined a game of football , but that was probably part of their master plan . Not happy , could of gone above Manpoo

The whole first half performance was lethargic, half-hearted and sloppy

Too many players guaranteed places. Obiang must wonder why he joined us. Song was awful, as was Valencia

Saints played 3 centre backs to allow them an additional player in midfield to nullify Payet. Did we get our wide players or full backs forward at all? No !!

Bring Carroll on and take both your wingers off. What were you thinking Slav?

Was always going to be a tough game to get anything out of it , Their Keeper has now got 5 clean sheets in 5 games after yesterday
Even when Saints went down to 10men it was always going to be tough as unlike Villa during the week they are a very good team and still it don't matter to much as we stay 6th and two points clear of 7th place so all good

Dont agree Arran,  all is not good.  Yes Southampton are a far better side than Villa,  but if we want to be counted among the best sides in the country,  we must win these games when teams go down to 10 men. As said above we were clueless going forward, they nullified Payetand we had nothing more to go at them with, we can't  become a one man team, sorry but this was not good enough if we want to stay 6th or break into tbe top 4-5.

Agreed Motty. This starting slow shit is getting on my nerves now. Unless we are playing a "top four" side at home our mentality is just wrong. The players need to stop believing their own publicity. Earn the right to play first. Close down, press, win the second balls............these are things that our opponents seem to do while we try to ease ourselves into the game

My point will be proven on Tuesday night when we will see the same players doing what they failed to do at Watford, Spurs, Newcastle, Sunderland, Villa and now Southampton, and being "at it" from the first whistle

Got to agree guys. There is a worrying trend here, we are so slow from the off. It's as if our players have no urgency. Passing from the start is poor with the other teams players looking like they want the game more then our lot. I'm just fed up with our lot going forward and then seeing the ball back with our keeper. I even remember a game at home where the ball was passed back from a free kick when we was in a good position to put a cross into the opposition goal area. Some of our players seem to be half hearted in their approach. I know we sit a 6 in the league however play like we did at Southampton and we will be dropping. At home to Aston Villa we were always playing the ball down the left to Payet when we should have been going down the right. Our build up going forward is to slow giving other teams, who are playing defencively, all the time to get in position and stop us. We need to learn how to play well against those teams that play deep. My worry is we will seem the same type of play tomorrow and be knock out of the cup when we should already be though. End of rant.
