I've Had Some Time To Reflect

Post  Blakey on Sun 27 Aug 2017, 9:55 am

And if I'm honest, everything I see coming out of or to do with the club is negative. The football certainly is, there is no pride, no passion, nothing. It's like a group of lads turn up are given shirts and left to sort themselves out. It's wrong.

Lets look at the defence. This is the best, on paper, defensive line up we've had for donkeys, 3 internationals ffs. These players have been playing that position throughout their careers, they should in all honesty know what they're doing. So why don't they?

On paper, this is the best squad of players we've had for, well, since the inception of the Premier League. So why isn't it happening?

I see continual reports that the training is slack, there is no intensity, players turn up, have a jog about and go home. Players have been saying things like "I couldn't believe how relaxed the training was when I got here compared to XXXX". Why? Why is this allowed to continue.

Now, lets look at the first 3 fixtures away from home. Manchester United; we were 1 down before the ball was kicked with their signing of Lukaku. I don't think anyone in their right mind had this down as anything but a loss. But the way we lost was farcical. Southamption; we don't have too bad a record there so it should have been at least a draw probably a win. Yes you can argue the Arnautavic rush of blood sending off cost us but did it? Southampton hadn't scored for over 9 hours until we turned up. They managed 3 past us, 2 penalties one of which was questionable. With the defensive unit we had they shouldn't have been suckered into giving them away. Yes, we managed to claw two back from our only threat on the day, Hernandez who does look to be an excellent signing.

Finally Newcastle. What can you say in defence of our team. Nothing, there really is nothing there. We beat Cheltenham mid week, which we should have done at a canter with the youth team in all fairness. Newcastle lost to Nottingham Forrest and hadn't won either of their first two Premier League fixtures. Their manager is looking for an exit, continually bemoaning the lack of transfer activity. They were ripe for the picking. Again, on paper, this had us full of confidence after a win going up there and trouncing them making significant inroads into our negative goal difference. But again we turned up and rolled over.

Then this morning I see the comments by Mr Snodgrass, a player I have admired since seeing him playing for Leeds. We should have got him then, he would have been an awesome player for us. However, we didn't and when we did finally get him I was quite excited about what he would bring to the team. But the manager decided not to play him where he's played his entire career, gave him a role he wasn't comfortable with and was surprised when he didn't perform. To be honest, I'm not.

The buck stops with the manager. It is up to the manager to sort out what's wrong. It's up to the manager to motivate the players. It's up to the manager to play the players in the position they've played all their career, not try and make them fit his system.

People are saying "it's only 3 games into the season, give him time". It's not though, is it. 5 wins in the last 23, 123(?) goals shipped is not good enough. Give him 5 games or until Christmas people say. It could be too late by then, the board need to act now and either give Mr Bilic the opportunity to resign or if he will not do that, sack him.

    There, I said it.

    yeah that

For me the main factor is that we concede truly awful awful goals.

You look at every goal we concede and its never an absolute worldy, you analyse each goal and find yourself saying "what the fupp is he doing ? Why is that player going towards the ball when somebody else is going for it and he is leaving his man behind.

I watched the mancs v Leicester game and until the late goals Leicester were so solid, every player doing a job, shuffling across the pitch as the opponents moved the ball, tracking, tackling and knowing when to press whilst also looking dangerous when going forward.

I watched West Brom v Stoke and that was the same, players looking like they knew what they were doing for most of the match.

I don't see that from any of our team they look lost in a dream world half the time.
I don't think we have one leader in our squad. Fans point to Noble as Mr West Ham and our leader but unfortunately he is as clueless as the rest of them when it comes to positional play.

It cant be coincidence that players have signed for us under Bilic and just stop performing to the standards they did at their previous clubs.

I cant remember the last time that I saw a team that Slaven put out that I didn't think "that's not going to work".....

when you are playing poorly and not winning games you cant keep banging away with the same formation, no tactics and hoping for the best.

yeah that x twice, I totally agree with both of you. The club is losing its way under Slaven, we had a good first season with him in charge but the last 15 months have been crap. There are to many players who are getting a free ride, not putting a shift in training and onthe pitch at game time!
Bilic is to often playing players out of position, Snodgrass is not the first, Oxford and Rice, Antonio and others. Noble is no longer good enough and needs to be dropped, Carroll can be  an awesome player, but I wonder how much time he would have spent 'injured'  if he was a manure player under Ferguson. As Bill Shakespeare said in a play wot he wrote 'something is rotten in the state of Denmark (read West Ham United FC for Denmark), something is very wrong at our club and I fear it starts with the management and staff and gives the players a wrong mind set.
Carvelho would have to be bonkers to join us at this time!

I cannot see how we are going to improve. Bilic teams just don't seem to be able to defend and he made a big mistake at the start of his reign making Noble captain. I have always thought of Noble as a bottom third PL player at best. To me he does not think about what he does on the pitch, e.g. Free kicks in opposing area kick back to his defenders. His example to other players is negative and this seems to be the, we don't care attitude we see today from other players. Bilic does not seem to be able to control this and the Dave's know this so I don't expect to see any more money up front for transfers. Bilic will have to come good with the players he has or be gone before Christmas. Might be wrong about this but if I was in charge of the purse strings no more money would be spent, holding this back for a new manager to spend in January.

I have a feeling you're right and thats why we are holding back on Carvelho, we need him but if Bilicis gone come Crimbo a new manager may see things differently and want to bring in others.

I think the technical term we are going to see from GaS  is 'get on with what you've got or fupp off'

Well was this a good transfer window for us?
Eventhough I said above I expect the Dave's were holding back the money due to team performances I still thought we would bring in someone on deadline day and now feel disappointed and let down. I think a number of us look at our squad saying it's a good one however I think we all look at it through claret and light blue glasses and don't see it for what it is. I feel we have a bottom of the table squad and our results will reflexe this. Bilic is likeable and the Dave's are giving him a chance but I expect him to fail in the next four games and then we have the problem of replacing him and his coaching staff which will cause massive problems again to team performance. With this all in mind we can expect to be a bottom three team for the first half of the season and who knows what will happen in the second half. This is going to be a long boring season in which we will be one of the favourites to go down. How's the time to put your bets on.

If we line up for the next game with 2 up top and Rice in at Centre Back my
views on Bilic will change but I expect us to line up with a vulnerable looking
433 and Rice on the bench.

Would it be fair to say that the lack of business in the final few days of the window was the board not prepared to spend money on players that a manager wanted who's staring down the barrel of a gun?

Yes without a doubt, can be a double sided sword haging over him. If we dont get a result in tbe next three games with what he has, he'll be gone and we'll be up a very muddy creek with no paddles. We badly needed a player like Carvelho but the penny pinching GaS failed to produce again. Even worse they coulnt even get loan deals over the line.
For all the talk of a 'good' transfer window we got rid of I think10 players and brought in only 4 that can be considered first teamers for a total outlay  of £40m, Tony Gale said earlier this week that after taking into account what they got for the 10 leaving our spend was around £5-6m!!! Is that taking us to the next level? Is that backing the manager?
We haven't addressed the obvious defensive issues we have, and with tbe manager not trusting younger players in their proper positions things will only get worse.
I try not to get on tbe back of the team/ manager, but something isn't right at West Ham. There doesnt seem to be a plan A let alone a B, there is no leadership on or off the field and I don't see that changing under Bilic's management, I'm sure he's a great guy and loves the club, but I'm afraid his sell by date has come and gone for me.

So in effect G&S wouldn't spend the money on someone Bilic wanted in case they fire him. Yet in doing so they've alienated the fans, something they seem good at doing. I have no idea where this will end up but for Bilic's sake I hope we smash Huddersfield 3 or 4 to nill next Monday. Can't see it though....

p.s. I also commented on the other forum many of us also use but that seems to have disappeared off the web, anyone know what's happened to it?
