Declan Rice the future? Empty Declan Rice the future?

Post  mottinghammer Mon 24 Sep 2018, 11:44 am

I was listening to talk sport as I drove home from fiddling with chickens this morning (its not against the law) and they were discussing Declan Rice. Now from what was said it appears that the club has still not sorted  out a new deal for him.
If this is true its nothing short of criminal, he is without doubt the best defensive player we have had since Rio. I personally believe he could be almost as good as my all time hero Sir Bobby, if (a very big if) he continues to improve at the rate he is doing and chooses to play for England over the ROI.
I fear that he is likely to be doing that at one of the big clubs, if we do not sort this out now!! I accept he is young and still learning his trade, but if we are paying Carroll £90k a week to sit on his arse then Rice must be worth £40-50k a week to ensure he stays with us and becomes our next captain once Noble hangs his boots up.
    Any thoughts?
    Anyone there?
    Anyone give a toss?

I reckon personally the club are waiting to see if Rice fizzles out like Oxford did before offering him a new contract which in some ways makes sense but on the other hand we could end up losing him which we can`t do. He is deffo a future captain which hopefully will be for us in the few years.

In Norfolk !! Declan Rice still has 2 years left on his current contract and we have the option of a further year after that so there is no rush. Whilst I think he should be offered an improved deal in the not too distant future, I believe that the club got their hands burnt when they gave Reece Oxford a £20,000 per week contract on the back of ONE good game

Not just one game though is it Tone. The board don't have to go mad, but they do have to keep proving to him that he is very valued at West Ham and money talks  Twisted Evil

Declan's clearly a stand out for us even in the midst of such terrible performances.

I don't disagree with Tony that there's no need to rush... but we all know that the world is built around rushing into knee jerk decisions these days...

Personally, I'd rip up Carroll's contract, boot him out of the club and give most of his wages to Rice.

A great idea, but in all seriousness we'll have to wait till his contract ends.  How about giving Dec a sweetner for now?

I totally agree Jiggs, we need this kid.......... Badly!  The reason I put this up as talksport were saying he was coming into the last year of his contract. If as Tony says there is still two years to run, plus a further one then its not as much of a rush.
As for not wanting to get stung as we appear to have  been over Reece Oxford, Rice has had a season in the first team not just a few games,  he lokks better every time we play as the team gets better. This kid is the real deal no question about it, just hope he decides that being born in England he should play for England!!! englandsmiley

Anyone else worried that we haven`t tied Rice down to a new long term contract yet. With the Impressive proformances he keeps putting in lately it`s only going to be a matter of time before the big clubs come hunting for him so we really need to get him tied down long term before it`s to late and we lose him for nothing.

Phew!!  3 points last night and now newsthat Declan Rice has signed a deal till 2024, with an optionof a further year.
Not interested in what they are paying him, after watching the game today, and I saw a player who reminded me of the great Sir Bobby something I do not say lightly. He is the next captain of West Ham and hopefully will now decide that as he was nornin England he should play for England.

So Happy that we have tied him down for at least another 5 n half years maybe more. He is such a Superb player for his age. It`s players like him and Diaganna that we need to keep and build and team around.
