Re: Joey Barton ....
As much as i hate barton on a free he would be a very good signing and I have a feeling that barton would join us without question to join up with his old team mate nolan and old manager Allardyce ! If parker was go then bring in barton would be the pefect replacement in many ways

Re: Joey Barton ....
On a free I can see him having a host of mid to lower Prem teams coming in for him.
HUGE wages though and signing on fee; if, as Arran said, we lost Parker THEN maybe worth the outlay. But I would avoid if need be! Too big a risk as a liabilityfor the expenditure.
The question is, what has he done to make Newcastle make him available for nothing???? Perhaps he shagged Pards wife or even worse Pards bit on the side. Allegedly.

Re: Joey Barton ....
I think it is more about what Barton has SAID rather than what he has DONE. He was quite scathing when Newcastle sold first Andy Carroll and then the club captain (and his best mate) Kevin Nolan
There is no doubt that he is an excellent footballer. A bit of a loose canon in the past. We are destined to lose Scott Parker so if we can get Barton on a free transfer and reunite him with Nolan it would be a big coup for us. BFS would also keep him in check
However, as others have said, he will have plenty of choices of club in the Premiership
Still, never say never

West Ham Set Sights on Newcastle's Controversial Midfield Ace
Posted on 17 August 2011
West Ham have reopened their interest in signing Newcastle's controversial midfielder Joey Barton, according to an exclusive report in the Daily Mirror.
The east London side started the season with a shock loss at home against Cardiff, but have responded with back to back victories, the latest a 4-0 thumping of Watford.
Barton is available on a free transfer after falling out with the Newcastle board after his comments about the club. The midfielder found even more controversy at the weekend when he went down rather theatrically after Gervinho raised his hands to the Newcastle mans face.
The Championship side were linked with Barton earlier this month, but it was generally considered that the player would receive offers from some of the Premier League's top sides.
As of yet there has been no significant interest in the former Manchester City midfielder and West Ham may now attempt to persuade Barton to drop down to the Championships.
Former manager Sam Allardyce has already managed to convince a number of players to leave Premier League sides for West Ham, including Barton's good friend and ex-Newcastle teammate Kevin Nolan.
Barton and Nolan formed a fantastic midfield partnership at Newcastle and helped the side gain automatic promotion two seasons ago before shining in the Premier League last season.
The talented midfielder would have to take a significant pay cut as he is reportedly on a £80,000-a-week contract on Tyneside. However, he may consider the move as his relationship with Newcastle has become increasing strained.
Any potential deal could hinge on the future of England international Scott Parker who has attracted interest from the likes of Spurs, Cheslea, Stoke and Aston Villa.
While no-one has matched West Ham's £8million asking price the club ares till expecting offers as the end of the transfer window moves ever closer.

Re: Joey Barton ....
Is he more trouble than he is worth? What can he add to our squad that is good enough to cancle out all of his crap?
That play acting at weekend against the Gooners was revolting, I dont like players claming they have been punched in the face when they clearly have not

Re: Joey Barton ....
From the Daily Mail.......
Kevin Nolan sees no reason why Joey Barton would not join him at West Ham and help lead the club back to the Barclays Premier League.
Barton has been told by Newcastle that he can leave St James' Park for nothing this summer, which has lead to a clamour for the 28-year-old's signature.
West Ham have been linked with a move for the combative midfielder, although are likely to struggle to convince Barton to drop down to the Npower Championship.
Nolan, though, does not regret his decision to quit life in the top-flight to team up with Sam Allardyce once more, and expects Barton would thrive at Upton Park.
"Would Joey Barton come here? Well, I came here, so I can't see why Joey Barton would not come," he said.
"It is a massive club.
"The way he has been treated over the last couple of years, he is probably looking for an escape.
"He knows I'm here, he knows Sam [who signed Barton for Newcastle in June 2007] is here and what we are about - I can look after him and he can look after me!"
"It would definitely be good for me. Joey is a great player to play alongside and he is a winner.
"He tells it straight, as people know, but deep down he is a lovely lad and I get on really well with him.
"He would be a great acquisition to the squad if we got him here.
"I'm sure the West Ham fans would love him and the players would come to love him. They [will have] read a lot of things about him - some of them are true, but others are blown out of proportion.
"With Joey, you have got someone [who] when he puts on the shirt, he genuinely wants to win, and he wants to do the best for the club and the players."

Wonder what Nolan is doing behind the scenes to entice Barton?
