Re: Crystal Palarse v West Ham United FC
I was really worried about today - no Taylor no o'brien plus a new goalie they have only met 3 days ago. Could have been disastrous.

Re: Crystal Palarse v West Ham United FC
Further to texts from my mate who was at the games today. Back four all excellent and looked up for it. He had special praise for Faubert, McCartney and Diop. Said the rest - especially Collison, Cole and Bentley - were poor
PS I think I should take what he said about the back four with a pinch of salt considering what BFS said about it ! He said ""It was shocking defending," added Allardyce. "We gifted the opposition two goals and that made life very difficult, in what was otherwise a very good performance"

Re: Crystal Palarse v West Ham United FC
Seems our leader was well pleased with PBD
The final word was reserved for Papa Bouba Diop, with the manager full
of superlatives for his first appearance in the claret and blue. "Wow,"
he said. "I was expecting I would have to give him oxygen after 60
minutes in today's heat but he was masterful in front of the back four
and setting us off on more and more attacks. As the game went on, I was
really pleased."

Re: Crystal Palarse v West Ham United FC
Big Sam on yesterdays game , from Sky
Sam: a decent point?
Coming back from a goal down and then from a goal down again, I just
never expected our defenders to gift the opposition two goals today. I
can accept the brilliance of players creating a goal sometimes and
scoring it, but not doing what we did today.
Murray, on the header, just flicks it on in the hope that one of his
players is there. We can see it, we showed the lads on the video twice
yesterday and today. This is his strength; if you can't win it make sure
his flick doesn't go to one of their players - and it went to two of
their players with not one of our players on him.
Sometimes you're baffled as a coach and manager when you've just pointed
out the danger areas of the opposition. But like I say, we came back
from that and we played very, very well. So that's pleasing.
We're now at the next two-week international break. Do
you think this is a good time or a bad time for you? Is it coming at a
bad time in terms of breaking up the pattern of games?
No, we've lost two in ten - but we've only gained four points this week
when we should have had at least five. Probably, had we done our job
better defensively today we probably would have got the six points we
were looking for, or more.
So it's a disappointing week, but the ten game review for me is 18
[points] out of ten games [which] is a pretty good return. We have to
get better than that, but we have the capacity now to focus on each
other and get better by everybody improving on a day to day and week to
week basis; [to] get stronger and stronger, both physically and
mentally.
I mean, if you saw Papa Bouba Diop's performance today, that's one man
playing 90 minutes who hasn't played for three months. If you just
imagine when we've got him into full match fitness. David Bentley -
another near full game - who hasn't hardly played for God knows how
long, another strive towards match fitness.
Guy Demel, [who is] now fit who will get the same; Sam Baldock
integrated into the side; John Carew scored today; Kevin Nolan scored
again; George McCartney settling in brilliantly; Abdoulaye Faye showing
his qualities.
So the squad [is being] used to its full and [is] producing a
performance like this - even though not the result. So in terms of our
strength and depth of ability on today's performance, even though we
haven't got enough points this week, it's looking very good.
