And welcome to the new year, new decade... new, well, you know what else is new around here.

Quick tip for the security minded, when writing cheques, etc... write the full year... i.e. 2020 as if you just write 20, some wag could easily add a couple of digits and render your check or other legal type document... something you might not have intended.

well... siting here listening to the 'thud, thud' of music from other apartments as we approach the midnight hour here in sunny los Angeles (well it was today) .

I've decided to hold all negative thoughts (they've been made fairly obvious to anyone who would listen) and judge what happens tomorrow on its own merits.

The first bit of good news is that we're a late kick off and so I don't need to crawl out of bed at the butt-crack of dawn.

Any road up... hope y'all had a good evening with a few tasty beverages.

I'll be back to ring n the new year in just a few short hours.

First of Happy New Year to Everyone on this forum.

Right - I`ve woken up Positive today with regards to West Ham United.
I`ve decided that with it being a bequinning of not just a new year but also a new decade - I`m going to think positively when it comes to West Ham...We have chance starting today against Bournmouth to start from a fresh slate almost what with us having a New manager (Kind off),New year and New Decade.

The more I think about it the more positive I feel about Moyes being incharge now - He`s got a much better squad this time round,He can plan ahead as well this time round as he knows he`s not on a short term deal etc...He did kind off make us diffiicult to beat last time round.

game hasn't even started yet and things look tough... results all around us are not going our way and we're currently in the rlegyion zone level on points with Watford...

Looks like 2020 is definitely going to make us earn our bread.

wow... all those results stood... Villa won away form home... Soon beat the Spuds...

so here we start the new year, the new decade... 18th out of 20... on 19 points, the same as Watford below us and only 6 points ahead of bottom place Norwich.

A win today will take us to the lofty heights of 16th but that 16th place would mean we'd only be 2 points off 10th place... so a lot of teams jostling for that mid table glory.

If we don't get a result today...

    doesn't bear thinking about.

Let's take a butcher's at the team news... here's how the BBC have it:

    Team news
West Ham v Bournemouth (17:30 GMT)
David Moyes makes four changes to the West Ham side which lost to Leicester last time out. Aaron Cresswell, Robert Snodgrass, Mark Noble and Angelo Ogbonna are in, while Issa Diop, Arthur Masuaku, Carlos Sanchez and Manuel Lanzini all drop to the bench.

West Ham XI: Fabianski, Cresswell, Balbuena, Anderson, Snodgrass, Noble, Fornals, Ogbonna, Haller, Fredericks, Rice

Subs: Jimenez, Zabaleta, Lanzini, Sanchez, Diop, Masuaku, Ajeti

How do we feel about that?

I figured Noble would be back in, that's about as dull and unadventurous a selection as anyone could possibly make.

I'm probably the only person on earth who thought Sanchez wasn't a total disaster in his last game - he looked better than Noble has all season - but of course, gotta drop a performing player for "Mr West Ham' - right?

no one mentioned anything about Antonio being injured so for him to be completely absent form the team and bench is a huge worry.

Haller up top on his own is also a big worry...

According to comms as the teams line up, Antonio has a knock... we're really going to need everyone to buck their ideas up...

Bournemouth are a bit of a bogey side for us, so everything points to no joy here today... but if situations were reversed we'd all be convicted we'd be handing the points over... so let's see if 2020 can get fate and good fortune heading in the other direction.

we're 8 points worse off than where we were this time last year.

Bournemouth kick off playing right to left.

first notable change is we're pressuring the opposition...

    which is good to see.

All Bournemouth possession but we've at least challenged everything.

Bournemouth almost get a nice shooting position on the edge of the box,

    corner to us...

Anderson gets the headed flick on but it's soft and lands straight in the keeper's hands.

Anderson's touch lets him down and he gives possession to B-mouth

we're not looking much better than usual... it's good we're playing a terrible team.

we get a lucky break... Anderson picks up the ball one on one... his pass to fornals is weak and behind him which slows the momentum...

So, Anderson not looking any better than ever...

    another corner to us.

we only had 4 players the box for the corner, so no surprise that even with it being a much better ball in... it gets easily cleared by the defense.

Anderson has easily been the biggest waste of money so far...

Haller hasn't been great but he can hide behind the lack of service

Fornals has been improving in his last couple of games

ten minutes gone, we're having a little more of the ball but doing nothing with it.

Fornals lets Cresswell take it... weak ball into the area and Bournemouth easily clear.

Plenty to alert the powers that be as to where we're lacking...

Cress is on his feet... we'll see how he copes when he comes back on.

and it's a goal for West Ham... Mr West Ham steps up from a move we've made so many times in the season... you know it...

Snodgrass gets the ball in the area... gets to the line, looks back and plays the ball back out to the penalty circle bit - which he always does... and as the move always needs... Noble is running on to strike...

He side foots it... it's a weak, going nowhere shot... but it hits a Bournemouth defender and gets deflected, completely wrong foots the keeper and rolls into the net.

So if you're looking for justification... Noble is the man and saves our bacon...

If you watched it... it was a pure fluke .

but we have the lead... now we just have to do what we fail to do on so many occasions... and hold on.

and it's another tried and trusted combo... Snoddy corner... ogbonna runs to meet it... heads it just wide of the goal.

    "18 mins
GOAL - West Ham 1-0 Bournemouth
    Mark Noble
    A goal from the captain!

Slick play from Felipe Anderson finds Robert Snodgrass in the box, he pulls it back to Mark Noble who wrongfoots Aaron Ramsdale between the Bournemouth sticks with the help of a deflection.

The David Moyes era (part II) is off to a flyer."

feels to me like the BBC is looking for the positive...

Snoddy runs in on goal and gets tripped on the edge of the box... great spot for a free kick.

low kick and deflected out for a corner...

    corner goes nowhere.

yes, we're leading (but that's just more squeaky bum time given how we hold onto leads)

    yes, noble scored

    yes, we're getting more possession

but our passing is still not crisp or accurate

we're still looking a little shaky at the back

    BUT....

    this is much better...

    good passing link up...

Snoddy plays Fredericks down the line to the corner...

Fredericks plays in a great cross to the middle of the box where Haller is waiting and he volleys into the back of the net.

    so what do I know????

Anderson does the step overs... but can't find a west ham player with his cross.

we're making all our moves down the wings... fortunately Bournemouth are well off the pace and not seeming to se how obvious our play is...

we'll all take an 'easy' victory... we need it... but we still look vulnerable and playing a team in better form than Bournemouth might not be going as well as it is today.

let's face it... we'v played plenty of poor teams recently and not managed to win... so the glass is currently half full.

noble sells a neat dummy by the corner but can't reach a west Ham player in the box... lots of possession for us now... we win a corner...

the corner goes nowhere but Noble seems to have realized he needs to lead...

he dummies with Snoddy and then runs into the box (yes, Noble... making a run on goal) he has two players around him and as soon as there's contact... Noble goes to ground... and the Ref awards a penalty...

    is VAR looking at it?

yup... and VAR says it's a penalty...

    Noble will take.

Looks like he'll be in the team for the rest of the season.

    BOOM!

    Goal...

34 minutes gone... 3-0 to West Ham.

Fabianski has been a complete spectator so far.

A clean sheet would be awesome as we'll need to tighten that goal difference as it's all so close between ten teams in the lower half of the table.

Not wishing to be negative but Bournemouth have been awful since the 5 minute mark.

But like I said, we've lost to some really poor teams this season and you can only beat what's in front of you... and we're doing that.

    "35 mins

Buried it. Mark Noble sends the goalkeeper the wrong way and West Ham are having a New Year's Day party.

Who would have expected this 35 minutes ago?"

exactly... this game has turned from the first 5 minutes...

we've had 6 shots... 3 on target... three goals.

Norwich are leading in their game too... so all the bottom teams are putting up a fight... just shows how desperately vital three points is today.

and to emphasize how important this is...

we're 16th... only one team between us and relegation... that's as high as we can get today.

our goal diff is now 'up' to -8 which is terrible but fortunately a lot better than the teams below us.

If we win our game in hand (yeah... against Liverpool) then the two teams on 25 points both have double difference minus goal difference... so the GD is a major part of where we're at.

Fabianski makes his first save of the game. Bournemouth can do nothing with the corner.

3 minutes of added time to go.

    Noble has played well.

    We've grown into the game.

Still not entirely comfortable watching our defense

Still want our passing to be more accurate

but every single one of us would have taken this no questions asked.

Let's hope the second half is as good as the first.
