Re: Thoughts on the new season
i think we will be ok after a lot of squeaky bum games and it will go to the last week or 2 of the season but we will stay up by the skin of our teeth.

Re: Thoughts on the new season
I think we will have quite a decent season this year finishing mid table at least , We have a decent squad , A manager who has been here and done it before so knows what it takes to survive.
Plus I`am sure that will see a few more decent signings befor The Villa game if not the end of august to boost certain areas of our team notably LB,STRIKER and poss one more CB .
I also think we will have a decent run in the cups this year
This would be my Line up for First Game against Vila : 442/433
Jussi
McCartney
Collins
Tomkins
Demel
Vaz Te
Nolan
Diame
Noble
Cole
Maige
SUBS
Henderson
Collison
Taylor
O`Neil
Maynard
Reid
Baldock
That team should be able to beat Villa with ease

Too hard to say at the moment , if we do the season with the players we have at the moment i would say 17th would be a result

Re: Thoughts on the new season
I reckon that all the pundits will have us down as strong candidates for relegation, but remember , all the same smartasses said we were too good for the drop two years ago!I'm pessimistic after such a shite preseason display, but IMO the strongest card we have in our hand is BFS himself - his record shows the ability to get good performance from apparently mediocre players. And at the moment that seems to be precisely what we have.

Re: Thoughts on the new season
I think the PL has a long tail this season. The other 2 promoted clubs will struggle to survive, I can't see Swansea or Norwich doing as well as last season, wba have done little to improve their position & wigan will always be down the bottom. Throw in a couple of clubs who have had decent seasons recently - I reckon sunderland & Stoke, & with the jury still out on qpr & we could finish as high as 12th!.
A couple more signings are needed & I'd like at least one high profile signing who we can rally behind. Get some points on board early & we could be sitting pretty by Christmas.
See - I'm not always a half empty man!

Feeling a little bit confident, but only, as SOI has said, because of our trump card.

I feel the same as I do before every season, blind optimism. We will comfortably finish mid-table.

you've normally "run out of cope" by half time of the first matchSuzanne Claret wrote:I feel the same as I do before every season, blind optimism. We will comfortably finish mid-table.

Re: Thoughts on the new season
And also Just been looking at the squad we had under Pardew in our 1st season back in the prem in the 05/06 season and comparing it to the current squad atm it was alot alot weaker with only one or two players that I would have back to improve the current squad with them players being Benayoun,Ferdinand and Konchesky.
This time round we have a much stronger squad with more Prem experience in it then last time round , We have as much as I dont really like him a better more experienced manager in BFS then last time so all in all I think we will have a strong season this year also If the 05/06 squad finished 9th , got to the Fa Cup Final and into europe then this current squad should be able to match that IMO

Re: Thoughts on the new season
We may have BFS but as the saying goes "you cannot polish a turd" and most of our squad could be loosely labelled turds as far as Premiership quality is concerned
I hope to be proved very wrong !

Agree there with you on that, also we only been out for a year and have had a total rebuild in many ways. I will go for 14th.

Re: Thoughts on the new season
Think we is gonna struggle unless we find a real goalscorer, defence looks ropey with no Green, sorry Jussi you is to old, only area we have improved in is midfield. I would be happy with 17th by a goal off Cole's arse in the 93rd min of our final game anything more than that is a bonus.
BFS has a record of doing a lot with little, think he is going to have to w**k for his dosh this year.
On the other hand we may take the premiership by storm, win our first treble with Cole scoring 48 goals to break Vic Watson's record, and every English player in the squad gets capped by Wroy.

Yes, also chuck in Villa into that, they were a bit lucky to survive last season.Johnny K wrote:I think the PL has a long tail this season. Re: Thoughts on the new season
It's very hard to predict as it also depends on the mood of the supporters, as we saw last season. I beg the West Ham supporters to think a little about what we saw last season, and back the team also when we are 2-0 down at home. We need that big name striker and if we get him or two not so big ones we will be alright.
