From ESPN online. Not good news if it is true

Carroll hamstring "too damaged to scan"
    September 3, 2012

    By Harry Harris, Football Correspondent

Andy Carroll's hamstring injury is so bad West Ham United had to cancel a planned scan on Monday.

The east London club, who worked so hard to sign Carroll on loan from Liverpool, fear that they might be without their powerful centre forward for some time.

A Hammers insider told ESPN: "It looks a bad hamstring, too damaged to scan at the moment."

It could only happen to us couldn't it? Our record signing injured in training after one game and our highest profile signing looks like he could miss 2 months of his loan due to injury. What is it about this club?

Not sure how a hamstring can be too bad to scan. CT or MRI doesn't damage tissue. Sounds a load of guesswork to me.

The swelling could affect any clear results so maybe they waiting a day or two longer but then that would only be seen on a scan! Maybe he had one and damage is preventing a clear prognosis. Media mind games or indeed club mind games perhaps?

For the same reason damaged knee ligaments can be too damaged to scan. You are correct. It is due to the swelling. Until that subsides it can mask the results of the scan

If it is a Grade 3 tear then it could be 6-8 weeks before he is playing again and could need an op to repair the tear nailbiter

That was my point, the wording. The injury wasn't too bad to scan-just the result would not have given any clear indication.

As I said, hopefully club bullshit to mislead the hack or just made up bullshit from the hack.

    But, knowing our luck indeed......

at least this time he played for most of the game and contributed to us winning the game... not exactly like the Simon Webster's of old... but galling nevertheless..

He'll be fine after the England game, mark my words.

I heard that someone had spoken to him after the game when he came out, signing autographs etc. He was walking perfectly fine, and when asked about his injury, he replied, "I'm fine, just don't tell Mr Hodgeson."

Besides, if it was that badly damaged, he would've, at best, been limping off the pitch badly.

    Worry not. Smile

did you watch him go off the pitch???, any slower and he would've been stationary, for me it was obvious the way he went down and went off that that was no "strain" it was a proper tear and he was gonna be out for weeks.

Ah ok, I was convinced when I watched it he was walking ok, just taking his time with us having the lead. So it may well have been genuine because of the injury, but I did hear he was walking absolutely fine after the game, then I read on BBC today about 5-6 weeks out.

    Just our feckin luck!

As long as they don't bring him back too early and he damages it further, then he will only be back in time to help save us from relegation.

Why oh Why cant we ever have a season where our best players dont get injured ?? scratch Telling

Fingers crossed that he will only miss the 5 games they say he will ( Norwich,Sunderland,QPR,Arsenal and Wigan in the Cup ) nailbiter

I just hope that Carroll`s debut gave Cole a massive kick up the ass and we will see a different cole tho I hope Maiga is given a run of games to show us what he can do in the premiership scarf

    From ESPN

Carroll set for second hamstring scan

    September 13, 2012

Andy Carroll will undergo another scan on his injured hamstring next week, with West Ham United cautious over setting a return date for the striker.

Carroll, 23, signed for West Ham in the summer from Liverpool on a season-long loan, and he made an impression on his debut as he played a role in their 3-0 win over Fulham.

But the forward damaged his hamstring in that match, and he was initially ruled out for six weeks - although recent reports have suggested he could make an early comeback from his injury.

However, a West Ham source has told ESPN: "It is not a precise science, if you speak to anybody about hamstrings they'll confirm that. So nobody can say how long it will be.

"He'll be rescanned next week, then we'll know more. The odds of him playing against Sunderland would be no more than 10%. There is a 35% chance of a comeback against Arsenal.

"If he doesn't make it back until Southampton that will be seven weeks out, and there is even a slight 5% chance it could be longer."

So the "source" says it's not an exact science (agreed) but then the report gives percentage figures for three games (fairly exacting to be fair) so presumably hacked journalism.

Reason club say little, they know not to say until be sure.

No news so make some up.
