• West Ham United host Stoke City on Monday night hoping to make it seven Barclays Premier League points from a possible nine. Fresh off the back of a fantastic 1-0 win away at Newcastle United on Sunday 11 November, Sam Allardyce's side return to the ground where they held champions Manchester City to a deserved draw last time out on Saturday 3 November.

• The Hammers start Monday's match seventh in the Barclays Premier League after dropping one place following Arsenal's 5-2 home win over Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday. However, any victory for the home side would see them rise to fifth in the table and within three points of third-place Chelsea.

• Stoke City start the weekend in 12th place with 12 points. The Potters have yet to win on the road in the 2012/13 Barclays Premier League season, but they have picked up three points through draws at Arsenal, Wigan Athletic and Liverpool

• West Ham United and Stoke City have kept the joint-most clean sheets in the Barclays Premier League this season with five. Norwich City have also pitched five shut-outs following Saturday's 1-0 home win over Manchester United.

• West Ham United have picked up eleven points from six home Barclays Premier League games so far, beating Aston Villa (1-0), Fulham (3-0) and Southampton (4-1), drawing with Sunderland (1-1) and Manchester City (0-0) and losing out to Arsenal (1-3).

• Former West Ham United players Matthew Upson and Matthew Etherington could both take part on Monday night. Etherington made 195 appearances in claret and blue before joining the Potters in January 2009. Upson made 147 appearances between January 2007 and May 2011 scoring four goals, one of which came against current club Stoke in a 2-1 defeat.

• West Ham United and Stoke City last faced each other in the 2010/11 season playing each other four times over the course of the campaign. The Hammers prevailed in both home matches, winning 3-1 in the League Cup and 3-0 in the Barclays Premier League. The return Barclays Premier League fixture saw a goalless draw played out but Stoke came out on top in the FA Cup sixth round, winning 2-1 en route to Wembley.

• The two clubs have met just six times in the Barclays Premier League, with West Ham United winning three, Stoke City winning two and one ending in stalemate.

• Guy Demel, Modibo Maiga and Gary O'Neil are all pushing for starts after impressing as substitutes at Newcastle United last time out. Maiga would make his first Barclays Premier League start for the club, while O'Neil would make his first Barclays Premier League start of the season.

• The trio are hoping to start as George McCartney (groin), Matt Jarvis (hip) and Yossi Benayoun (hip) were all forced off with injuries at St James' Park.

• James Collins will hope to force his way back into the starting XI after being left on the bench at St James' Park. If he starts, James Tomkins is likeliest to miss out.

• Ricardo Vaz Te (shoulder), Alou Diarra (thigh), Matt Taylor (back) and Jack Collison (knee) are all definitely out.

• Stephen Henderson (Ipswich Town) and Ravel Morrison (Birmingham City) are both out on loan.

Stoke City

• Republic of Ireland midfielder Glenn Whelan is a major doubt after injuring his hamstring in his country's friendly international defeat by Greece in Dublin last week.

• Midfielders Dean Whitehead (suspension) and Rory Delap (hernia) and defender Marc Wilson (broken leg) are definitely ruled out, while striker Michael Owen (hamstring) almost certainly is unavailable.

• F orward Jon Walters (knee) and midfielder Charlie Adam (groin) are expected to be available despite picking up knocks.

Last meeting

The last meeting between the two sides came at the Britannia Stadium on 13 March 2011 in the sixth round of the FA Cup. Stoke City emerged with a 2-1 victory with Danny Higginbotham scoring the all-important winning goal in the 63rd minute from a free-kick. Robert Huth headed the Potters in front after 12 minutes before Frederic Piquionne drew the sides level on the half-hour mark. Former Hammer Matty Etherington would see his penalty saved by Robert Green before Higginbotham's decisive intervention. The result sent Stoke to their first FA Cup semi-final in 39 years. They would go on to reach the final but would suffer heartbreak at the hands of Manchester City courtesy of a second-half strike by Yaya Toure.

Background

• Monday's game is the 83rd time West Ham United and Stoke City have faced one another in competitive fixtures. West Ham have won 33, Stoke 30 and there have been 19 draws.

• Stoke City are considered to be the second-oldest professional football club in the world behind Notts County. Formed in 1863, the Potters were also one of the 12 founding members of the Football league in 1888.

• West Ham first faced Stoke in a Southern League First Division match at the Boleyn Ground on 16 December 1911. The Potters won the game 4-3 with William Kennedy (two) and Tom Randall on target for the Hammers.

• West Ham's biggest win over Stoke City came in the 1957/58 season. Vic Keeble bagged a hat-trick in a 5-0 Division Two victory on 6 November 1957, the Hammers would go onto be promoted. Keeble also scored twice in the reverse fixture - a 4-1 win at the Victoria Ground the following March.

• Monday night's referee will be Chris Foy.

• Foy has already taken charge of one West Ham United fixture this season - the goalless draw at Norwich City on 15 September.
