Strong rumours that Wally Downes has left the club. The Moose (on Twitter) thinks it is true and is expecting a club statement soon

Strange one this seeing how he was celebrating with BFS and Neil McDonald when Maiga got our 3rd goal against the Russian scum

Downes leaves post as West Ham first team coach by mutual consent

Wally Downes has left his position as first team coach at West Ham by mutual consent.

The 51-year-old, who joined the club in 2010 as defensive coach, was appointed in the role after Sam Allardyce replaced Avram Grant following relegation to the npower Championship in 2011.

Allardyce is understood to rate Downes highly and spoke publicly of his regret at not appointing him as No 2 at Ewood Park during his his stint as Blackburn boss.

A founding member of Wimbledon's Crazy Gang, after his career ended in 1988, Downes has backroom experience at Crystal Palace, Brentford - whom he managed between 2002 and 2004 - Reading and Southampton.

Hmmmmmm.....The Moose - has he got anything right yet?

I certainly hope he's wrong this time.

He never started the rumour. He was just responding to Tweets about it

I think he is one of the reasons why our defence has been so strong in the last couple of years ... hope its not true

Lots of rumors flying around last night about Wally leaving , don't make sense to me

latest rumor is that he is to take over at Wimbledon

Maybe they are waiting till his next job is confirmed before they put it on offish.Always looked as if him and Sam got on well so its an odd one unless he has been a very naughty boy somewhere.

Don't know too much how I feel about this-to say our defence has improved is true to a degree, despite the players within it but then again he was bought in by Grant-then released by the club then ought back by Sam.

Disruption is the biggest issue of course-I can only imagine it is a managers role he would leave for (unless there is something we don't know).

Time will tell-perhaps he is Chelsea bound for a fortnight???

Yep, he's not doing a bad job with our defence, bearing in mind the ever changing one we have had so far this season.

Wasn't Wally responsible for moving Spector out of defence and into midfield the night we thrashed the mob from Old Toilet? He should go down in Hammers history for just that one thing
