Probably because you put it in the signature box rather than the avatar box.

I put it in the avatar box, it said the URL wasn't recognised but it appears as my signature :shock:

Working fine, here 
just went to profile -> avatar menu and inserted the link to the image in the "link to an off-site avatar" field.
hmm ok i see she is not moving! weird.. it is an animated gif, so it should move..
ok now it does.. wtf
