West Ham are hoping to finalise a move for FC Dallas defender George John.

John, 24, is rated one of the best central defenders in the Major League Soccer and has also attracted interest from Blackburn.

But reports in America suggest that West Ham have won the race to clinch his signature.

West Ham boss Sam Allardyce is keen to sign another central defender as he only has James Tomkins, Winston Reid and Abdoulaye Faye to choose from.

FC Dallas confirmed at the weekend that John has left their training camp and has now travelled to Europe to finalise his long-term future.

West Ham are hoping that a deal can be agreed for the 6ft 3in defender, who is eligible to play for both the USA and Greece.

Reminds me of Billy Bonds; which is a worry as the stuff a defensive player could get away with in the pre-flag happy, cheating dive merchants day would no longer be deemed as "fair" In most of those clips his tackles came from the side or from behind (albeit with aplomb) He would need that nurturing out of his natural game. Saying that his timing looked impeccable and he looked good with the ball at his feet and composed (though of course these clips are chosen that way). I am willing to go over and see if he is good enough!!!

And if all that seemed negative then quite the opposite-the Yankee game looks far more reminiscent of the 70's football I grew up on-when men were fair mostly and didn't collapse with lace-lash.

George John, a centre back come defensive midfielder from MLS team FC Dallas has concluded a load deal to join West Ham until February. If all is well, then apparently a full transfer can be expected.

Hopefully this is cover and not as a replacement for Tomkins.
