West Ham have offered former Real Madrid midfielder Guti a pre-season trial according to The Sun.

The Spanish midfielder spent the bulk of his career at the Santiago Bernabeu, before moving to Turkish side Besiktas; he is currently available on a free transfer.

Sam Allardyce is set to bring Guti on the Upton Park side’s pre-season tour of Austria, and if the 35-year-old can prove his fitness and ability will be offered a two-year deal with the newly-promoted side.

Agent Barry O’Connor looks after the playmaker’s affairs in England, and has revealed that the decision will be in the Hammers’ hands.

“West Ham will make a final decision before the next season starts. I cannot discuss what terms could be offered,” he stated.

Guti won 15 trophies in his time with Real Madrid, including

Lazy journalists linking all of Barry O'Connor's contracted players. Gut is on Berb is another. He also represents the UK interests of Ruud van Noselrooy so watch out for that rumour too.

Can't see £8 or9m on a player who is 32 and in the last year of his contract. Plus on megabucks.

Silly Season Summer 2012 - Page 12 Empty Ameobi anyone ?

Post  Admin Sat 16 Jun 2012, 7:44 pm

Just when you think you have seen it all, a story like this pops up.

‘West Ham United are interested in signing Newcastle forward Shola Ameobi and hope to conclude a deal for the 30-year-old before the end of the summer.

West Ham boss Sam Allardyce is the hunt for a target man after the Hammers were priced out of a move for Norwich’s Grant Holt. Allardyce managed Ameobi when he was boss at St James’ Park and is confident he can convince the striker to join him in East London.

The Upton Park club hope a bid of around £2.5 million will persuade Newcastle to part with their most loyal servant’.

Now there might just be a one in a million chance of this happening but it does smack very much of picking a player’s name out of a hat, pick a club and then find something to connect them. In this instance thanks to ‘caught offside’ website for their exclusive….

Shola has turned into a bit of a strange phenomenon at St.James’ Park, to most people over the age of 25 they can’t quite believe how he has hung around so long and can’t understand why he looks a different player against the mackems, with a goals record to match.

As for many under 25, Ameobi is the cult hero mackem slayer and they won’t have a word said against him.

Silly Season Summer 2012 - Page 12 Empty From the Transfer Tavern

Sam Allardyce always has an eye for a bargain and would probably have the label of ‘wheeler dealer’ if Harry Redknapp didn’t act like Del Boy’s famous long lost Uncle.

The Daily Mail and a few other sources across the internet claim that former Galactico Guti is ready to join West Ham United and become the second over 35 signing for the hammers this week, with Jussi Jaaskelainen reuniting with his former boss.

Allardyce has a history with bringing out an Indian summer from players that lit up the stage in the late 90′s or early 00′s. Youri Djorkaeff, Fernando Hierro and Jay Jay Okocha won the hearts of the Reebok faithful during a time when the Bolton changing room was similar to an old box of World Cup 98 Panini stickers.

With this in mind I would foresee no problem with Sam Allardyce convincing Guti to join West Ham but with the riches that the Gold and Sullivan partnership are willing to splash on a player, it could be a case of Guti getting one last pay off before ending his career.

If you think they won’t spend over the odds on Guti then just remember they paid Frederic Piquionne, John Carew and Papa Bouba Diop enough to play at Championship level even though they rarely featured toward the end of the season.

Having won everything at Real Madrid and Besiktas – he won his first domestic trophy in Turkey May 2011 – I doubt he would have the motivation and desire to put on a shirt every week and play his heart out so he can gain mid table obscurity. Allardyce managed to get some formerly great players to play at Bolton but back then the wages weren’t as astronomical as they are now.

On the other hand if Allardyce wanted his influence to rub off on some of his younger players he couldn’t go for someone with better experience. Guti has won 3 Champions League titles and 5 La Liga titles along with playing an arm full of El Classico’s making him as comfortable with pressure as David Cameron is with Rebecca Brooks, allegedly.

Young midfielder’s like Jack Collison, Mark Noble and the controversial Ravel Morrison could all learn a lot from the man who performed one of the most audacious assist’s in La Liga history.

His role as the ‘Scott Parker’ of the team wouldn’t be hampered by age either. He would most likely be sat in front of the back four tidying up any loose mess and allowing his defenders to concentrate on keeping some of the best strikers in the world quiet as well as letting creative midfielder’s like Kevin Nolan, Jack Collison and Mark Noble focus on the attack and helping out when his leg’s begin to creak.

It would be wonderful to see Big Sam pull off one of his old school signings and let them reinvigorate themselves for one last flourish before ending their career on a high note whilst simultaneously endearing themselves with a new bunch of loyal and good hearted fans. If he could also knock some sense into the troubled Ravel Morrison I’m sure Allardyce and the majority of the West Ham back room staff would make a shrine to him.

Unfortunately the cynicism inside me can’t be controlled and with this transfer likely to go ahead I would be worried as a West Ham fan that Guti won’t just be blowing bubbles on the bench whilst collecting a handsome pension each week.

Silly Season Summer 2012 - Page 12 Empty Olsson the Swede

Post  Admin Mon 18 Jun 2012, 5:44 pm

Sweden may not have picked up any points at Euro 2012 yet, but that hasn’t stopped center-back Jonas Olsson from being linked with a move to more than half the clubs in the Barclays Premier League this summer.

Olsson has been a crucial cog in the West Bromwich Albion defence for four seasons, but it appears that the 29-year-old is keen on a new challenge, and had been strongly linked with a move to Tottenham last month. However, the departure of Harry Redknapp from White Hart Lane has meant that that link has since gone cold, and it is another London club in West Ham United, who are hoping to pick up the pieces.

Hammers boss Sam Allardyce is looking to strengthen his back four as he prepares for the challenge of keeping the club up this season, and is looking for a seasoned Premier League defender with experience of doing just that. Olsson fits the bill perfectly, and with just a year left on his contract with the Baggies could be available at a rather affordable price.

A decision on the move will not be too far away either with Sweden set to play their final match in the tournament tomorrow night against France.

I like this fellow , big works hard , keep an eye on him tomorrow night , or dont or you will miss the England game , but check him out when you get a chance

It is a definite area to improve, across all 3 defence positions. With Faye gone the limited cover we had has gone also. Defence, as a unit will be pivotal, assuming Green has gone especially. I am sure Sam is well aware of this-no good getting flair and big names up front and creating if the defence is as safe as the Thailand Girl Guides at a Gary Glitter concert.
