Re: Joe Cole back for WB game
No mention of McCartney or Nolan though ? McCartney played 90 mins for the ressies and Nolan is on the FB pictures of them training today so presumably both are fit enough to be in the squad?
Found a bit more detail here........
Hammers captain Kevin Nolan will be back in the starting line-up on Saturday, while Joe Cole and George McCartney are also likely to figure
West Ham captain Kevin Nolan will be back in the armband tomorrow (Saturday) as the Hammers look to take a giant leap towards Premier League safety by beating West Brom at Upton Park.
The top scorer has been missing since breaking his toe against Tottenham in February, but manager Sam Allardyce confirmed that he will feature against the Baggies.
“We are likely to see him,” said the boss. “He is going to train today (Thursday) and I don’t think he will need to have a painkilling injection either.
“The fact that we have given him time and the rest from the moment he fractured it and we decided not to risk him at Chelsea by jabbing it has worked.
“That would have extended the injury and he would have needed more and more jabs.
“Often the jabs can’t last the whole game and when you are in discomfort and pain then you can’t really perform to your maximum.
“So hopefully he won’t need a painkiller, he will just be fit to get out there and be one of our goalscorers on Saturday.” There was good news too with the return of both Joe Cole following his hamstring injury, plus George McCartney who hasn’t figured since damaging knee ligaments at Tottenham back in November.
However goalkeeper Raphael Spiegel is out, while there is no return date set for midfielder Mark Noble.
“We have no injury problems from the players that were on international duty, apart from Spiegel who has fractured a finger in four or five places,” explained the manager.
“We have called Stephen Henderson back from Ipswich for the goalkeeping position, while Joe Cole is back in full training, so joins the squad.
“Mark Noble though has not recovered from his surgery on a trapped nerve.
“We don’t really know how long Mark is going to be out because it is the sort of injury we haven’t incurred before, so we can only take it day by day.
“I know how Mark feels, he is making good progress, but it is up to the specialist when he next pays him a visit.”
After a week where West Ham have secured the Olympic Stadium, three points on Saturday would be the icing on the cake.
