Red With Rage
West Ham fans have been left red faced with anger after learning that the club plans to release a one off red kit to be used next season.
The commemorative kit, designed by new supplier Adidas, pays homage to the clubs 1966 World Cup winning trio of Bobby Moore, Martin Peters and Geoff Hurst. The logos and club crest are all gold and there is an embodied gold patch on the bottom with '66' on it.
It is a move that has angered West Ham fans though and will further test the already frail relationship between the owners and the fans in the wake of the decision to move away from the Boleyn Ground.
One fan reacted with rage when showed the designs. 'The club are taking us for fools' he snapped, 'first we are forced out of our home of a hundred years and now they change the colours to red. This really is a step too far for me'.
The idea follows Adidas and Swansea City's successful launch of an away kit in national colours this season and is a direct attempt to gain more fans ahead of the clubs big stadium move. A source said, 'We are proud of our history and achievement as a club and hope that our move to the Olympic Stadium will help us to become the team of choice for many fans of English football'.
The club are planning a full release of the shirt later this month to coincide with St George's Day and Adidas will release a further three West Ham shirts between now and next season. An insider said, 'this one will no doubt split opinion in the East End but we are thinking of the bigger picture, we hope to win back any disgruntled fans with our other designs'.
