What a great result to end what has been a excellant first season back inthe premier league !!!
A massive well done to the team,BFS and of course S&G !

And if it wasnt clear already that we want Carroll to stay and then it is now ... Our fans were great and they made it loud and clear that we wanted carroll to stay !!!!

We have to make signing Carroll and keeping Diame our main objectives this summer if we are to improve on this season next year !

P.S Think Carroll will have to give the top goal scorer award he won to Nolan now haha

It's been a bloody good season getting up to 10th playing nothing but hoof ball whilst Rednapp, Adkins, Reading and Wigan get relagated.

I never had a problem with Sam's style of football-it is not hoofball, it is direct play, it is attacking football and utilises strength rather than skill-which any side, such as ourselves, can no longer afford to keep up with the big boys. If the style of play was meaning young or skilled talent was being over-looked; to conform to a style-then maybe we could complain-but it isn't-we have very little talent in our squads-got to accept that. No position is a shoe-in right now. Diame and Nolan, Reid on this years performance are the closest we have for next season. If we get Carroll, shore up the defence, midfield and keepers we will have a great chance to repeat this season and stay safe again-I don't think our ambition needs to be anymore than that right now. And finally on Carroll-if we spent £10m last season on Jarvis, I can't see any problem justifying the £17m activation clause for Carroll who is ideally, and intrinsically, suited to the style of play.

Weren't aiming that at you-wouldn't as you are actually there, week in week out so know better than me.But lots of people do class it as that and, to be controversial-even if it was just "hoof-ball" I still stand by the direct attacking approach using strength is a valid-and some would say-a better spectacle. It is non-stop sit on the edge of your seat sytuff. Personally I cringe every time West Ham or England try to play the short passing/pissing around with it in defence game. We just are not equipped to play that way.

Direct attacking football can be beautiful-as in Barcelona case; in English football, it is a heritage thing-we are not gifted, when we are (Hoddle, Le Tissier, Gascoigne) we can't accommodate them in a national team, as we can't afford luxury players.

Season 2012 - 2013 1626210847 A very good season for our first back where we belong, job well done by just about everybody from GaS downwards.Secured the Olympic Stadium too, we have to class that as a positive and just hope that it turns out better than the doom merchants say. Anyway, we kept Hearn out of it and that's definitely a positive.
I have to agree with JDLK that Big Sam's brand of football is not negative, it's just direct and effective. It makes the most of what we have in terms of talent, without going the Pulis route of total cynicism and as much thuggery as you can get away with. I did fear that we would end up as the Cockney Cloggers, but it's been nothing like that at all, thank God. We just can't afford the level of skill and talent that is now needed for fast, short-ball football in the Prem - not yet anyway. Rodgers is having a go with the Poo, but there's no guarantee that he will succeed even with their resources. We'll stick with Sam's way - and it's a lot more enjoyable than I thought it would be, to be honest. clap

Much more enjoyable than I though too Semi, but that's because I was guilty of believing what was being written about BFS in the papers. I know, shame on me.

But good on ya Sam, you knew what you were on about, stuck to it and we ended up mid table.

    Carry on clap clap
