WHUFC vs Man City -- Aug 10th, 2019

Well the season is finally upon us, although it only seems like a blink since the end of the last one...

Starting this early cos... well... thanks EPL... a 4.30am kick-off on saturday... there's a good chance I'll be too cream crackers to get up that early...

we bought a new striker.... that no one's ever heard of...

Fabianski is apparently fit and will ay - so we should keep the defeat down to single figures...

Diangana has been sent out on loan for the season...

and Newcastle have picked up Andy Carroll - so expect him to score a shedload against us in what will most likely be his only appearance of the season...

I kinda like the new site design seeing the scrolling latest posts on the front page... but it's tough to then navigate to the thread menu - and can we change the font?


Anyway... good luck everyone... be interesting to see if we can spoil the City party on day one...

I'll see if I can set me alarm and actually crawl out of bed in time to watch it live...

tes, it appears I am that mental... I mean dedicated...

even seeing Morwich get destroyed yesterday... didn't put me off...

one West Ham attack.. Cresswell getting medical treatment...

Haller cuts out a nice balance... Anderson plays it back into the middle...

it's all guns a blazing for a moment...

blimey... 4 minutes and we've not had a City attack yet...

We'll see how long this lasts...

City do attack... but even anderson is back there defending...

soppy back play from the champions and we almost nip in behind them but Lanzini is bundled off the ball for what would have been a nice soft penalty...

Long range shot from Mahrez... Fabianski sees it late through players but is down to push it wide for a corner... we defend well and Fab has it to play out...

about to hit ten minutes gone...

we are cutting out an awful lot of City balls...

now we have free kick about halfway into the City half... goes nowhere... but we get the ball back... attack again but put a high and wide across the field to cede possession...

City sneak a low show just past the post...

We have Snoddy... Fornals and Chicharito on the bench if we need them...

15 minutes gone...

Fredericks clips Sterling and we give away a free kick just out side the box but Fabianski has it in his hands before I can even finish typing...

we'd take this all season long at the moment...

defending from the front... smart, clinical play... stroll on...

Mahrez twists and turns in the area and hits the side netting...

If I'm gonna be pessimistic for a moment (and why not) you just get the feeling that Man Ciry could step it up a notch if they start to get on the front foot... the big question is whether this is as good as we'll get or if we can also step up if needs be...

22 minutes gone... almost a half of the half and we'r looking good .....

Wilshere almost gets the perfect ball down the side... but hits his own foot and puts it out of play...

sun is shining...

Anderson is putting in a short...

everyone looks up for it...

and there you have it...

players start too slow... City speed down the wing and chase the ball... leaving Cresswell in the dust...

it's played back not the box and Jesus nips in between two of our players, side foots the ball past Fabianski into the back of the net...

all that good work... all that promise... we're a goal down...

keep those heads up.

City go scarily close again...

that's football... you can do everything right... but switch off for half a second and all that good work goes out the window...

Same attacking move from Mahrez... but they play it into the box sooner and the crowd of defenders is there and Fabianski smothers...

it was exactly the start we'd wanted... City not quite being at the races... all or players gee'd up with a sell out home crowd... but one slip and we're exactly where we'd think we'd be,,,

trailing at home and as the clock ticks on... City look ever more dominant and we look like we're losing confidence...

Anderson was on fire for the first 20 minutes... now he's slipping back into obscurity like most of last season...

Antonio and Lanzini are putting n a short... Haller tried a trick shot but it was weak and the keeper gathered comfortably...

we're still in the game... but we got to put something together soon or we'll get nothing out of it...

three minutes to go till half time... got to at least hang on at 0-1

the half is coming to a close... three quick incidents sum it up...

a West Ham free kick sees out sharp ping pin passes take the ball only back into our own half and cede possession..

we play a ball into the box but our forwards wait for it to land perfectly for them (it doesn't) rather than ge to where the ball actually is...

a defensive slip almost gift City a goal out of nothing but Fabianski is there to gather...


half time... we're not out of it yet but we're not where we should be...

time for a cup of tea and an orange and a stiff talking to...

well we're back... Fornals is now on... and for som reason it's Antonio who makes way for him...

Never been a player to let us down... but Antonio is the one to go off.

Haller gets a knock in the back jumping for a ball...

5 minutes gone of this ungodly o'clock kick off...

City subs are warming up...


but that's pretty much game over...

we just sit back and give City acres of space to run in on goal... it's a one on one that you just know is only going to come out one way...

Norwich got shafted yesterday but still put in a short to boss the 2nd half of a no-win game and came out with nothing but plaudits... we look like we're back to capitulating at all turns...

oh dear oh dear...

we just sit back and basically gift them the game...

this could get embarrassing very quickly from here on out...

2 goals in as many minutes... and still 35 to play...

so we could lose this 36-0

although.. here's a laugh... they're checking VAR to see if we get a lifeline...

oooh strike a light... VAR does what our defense couldn't do and the goal is disallowed...

it's still only 0-2...

hardly anything to crow about... we should be embarrassed to have had to rely on technology to hide our shame...

Wilshire goes off (is that his season over?) and Snoddy comes on...

Still don't get why Antonio had to go...

Drop gets a chance to make amends... well floated free kick... he rises highest but the header just bounces onto the top of the net...

half an hour to go... we might get away without it becoming too much of a slaughter... but we're doing nothing up front...

Anderson is down getting treatment to his thigh... Chicharito is ready to come on... anderson looks like he's trying to get back on but Chicha takes his place...

Anderson's day is done... wonder if he bottled it...

he definitely went from everywhere to nowhere... much like last season.

and now Aguero comes on for City...

blimey... that woke someone up... we force two quick goal line saves via Chicharito and then Lanzini...

but it' back to business as normal...

city have never lost at this ground... which really really sucks for us...

Sterling gets a goal... not even VAR can save our defense this time...

Poor Fabianski... he should have stayed injured... this'll fupp his stats...

oh... they ARE checking with VAR...

jesus... this is going to ruin football as we know it... although computer says... goal...
