final whistle goes... another 2 points lost from a winning position...
but we'll be playing Premier League footie next season...
You know that we were playing an Unbeaten United team that were on Form going into this game
. I thought we played really well yesterday,The passing was good and we did try and go for the win while at the same time making sure we didn`t let them in at the back.
If we had played like that all season we`d be up their battling it out for a European Spot.
we played a Man U team that did not play well. If they'd played as well as they could we'd have lost.
our passing (as it has been for most of the past few years) was consistently off, we gave away possession way more often that a solid, decent or winning team would or should.
yes, we played better than we have a lot of times this season - but that's a statement about how consistently poorly we've played, not how we'd be top competitors.
once again, we took the lead in a game and couldn't hold onto it. We conceded right after the break, that exactly what you'd expect. You know the opposition are coming out of the gate to change the tempo and result of the game... school kids would see that coming.
To concede in that fashion shows a lack of discipline and ability to win. Exactly the kind of temperament we've shown over recent years and exactly why we've been in the bottom 6 since november.
We've played better since the restart than we had in the rest of the season (good job we have or we'd be in the championship next season). That's been down to Soucek, Bowen and antonio.
There are big changes needed for the future or the best we can hope for is flirting with relegation and hoping (as happened this year) that there are enough other teams that play badly enough to keep us up.
The upside of recent games is that we've not dropped our heads as badly as we often have - but we still couldn't hold onto a lead against an underperforming Utd side...
whatever time there is in the off-season needs to be spent really looking hard and deep into the club and what they honestly want to achieve.
what it's going to take for the club to pick up and move forward is something everyone will have their own thoughts and opinions on.
I'm happy we escaped relegation this year - on the balance of the entire season we maybe just about deserve it... but it feels to me like we benefitted more form other teams (thank-you very much) being worse than us rather than anything good we've done.
The arrival of Soucek is something to look forward to (is he staying?)
The step up of Bowen from being s serial Premier League loser to strength in the team is good to see.
There's some good youth in Rice and Johnson - but not enough from a team that's supposed to be the 'academy of football'.
Fabianski is still good between the sticks.
but there's not too much beyond that as things stand...
noble needs to be a super sub and nothing more.
antonio is getting on, for him to keep on at the level he's been recently is unlikely
we need forwards... Haller hasn't exactly set the world alight... no one at the club seems to know who Ajeti is... and beyond them... our goalscoring hopes are...??????
anderson has been a collosal waste of money.
lanzini is not the player he looked like he might be
formals played better yesterday than he has in a while - but if that's the best he's got... then... gulp!
Cresswell hasn't been good for some time...
Balbuena???
Diop and Ogbonna blow hot and cold - if they stay I hope they blow hot, if they get replaced by better players, I'll not be devastated.
Given what happened this year and the year before, I'm not convinced the club has it in them to turn the corner. I hope I'm completely wrong on that.
At least we survived 2019/2020
