From "The Games Gone Crazy"
In case any Watford fans are excited by the news of Duxbury and Nani being in charge of their club, let me remind you of an overcast night at Vicarage Road in September 2008 when West Ham came to town and exited the League Cup after a truly inept performance. Remember the barrel of lard playing at left back that night, one Walter Lopez? Nani signed him. Remember the keeper who pushed the cross against Mullins to gift an own goal to Watford? Nani signed him too. And they weren't the worst of his signings!
Remember Savio guys? Another Nani man! £9m for one start and ten appearances as substitute! You may not remember Kovac. West Ham fans will never forget him. Shit. And we could go on and on and on.
And behind the scenes, Duxbury, the Grand Pupprt Master, was pulling the strings. Talking up his "Project", giving personal interviews to fawning West Ham blogs to keep fans on side, telling us how Ashton was on course to return even as doctors were writing off his career, telling us the club was in rude financial health even as we became the Greece of English football, telling us that Zola wanted a smaller squad to w**k with as the likes of Bellamy and Collins were sacrificed to pay the bills.
The Duxbury-Nani-Zola axis was an absolute disaster for West Ham United. It was Duxbury who gave legal advice on the signing of Tevez and it was Duxbury who then agreed a £20m+ compensation package with Sheffield United before a High Court ruling effectively pronounced compensation unnecessary.Duxbury brought Nani to Upton Park and Duxbury brought Zola too. And the consequences were truly dire.
There's no justice in the world! Why did this have to happen to poor little Watford when Leeds United were desperate for new owners?
