Re: West Ham vs Cheltenham 8/27/2013
52: It could easily be 3-0 as West Ham turn on the style. Vaz Te finds Diame wide left. He lays back for Taylor, whose cross picks out Vaz Te between the centre-backs. His header is powerful and on target and Brown does well to punch clear.
48: Diame looks like a giant out there. He is a big man and has a lot of attributes. One of them is pace, as he wins the loose ball in midfield, beats one man and then streaks 30 yards to the edge of the D before spanking a left-foot shot over the crossbar. 'Oooohs' from the home fans. To be fair, the Cheltenham fans are enjoying themselves too.
sounds like someone put a little 'pep' in the half time cup of tea... or maybe someone got a bit of hairdryer treatment... either way... sounds like we're stepping up a gear to make this a done deal...

Re: West Ham vs Cheltenham 8/27/2013
oh dear... oh dear oh dear oh dear...
57: Goal! Maybe this game isn't over as Richards beats Adrian from 12 yards, despite the Spaniard going the right way. The Cheltenham fans roar with approval and Richards retrieves the ball from the net.
56: I am not entirely sure what happened there but Cheltenham have a penalty. The bouncing ball eluded Adrian as he came out from goal and a Robins forward - McGlashan, I think - ended up on the floor. Rat cleared the ball off the line, but Mr Scott blew and pointed to the spot. Yellow card for the goalkeeper and Richards will take...

Re: West Ham vs Cheltenham 8/27/2013
they haven't had a shot on target all game - except for the penalty.
Vaz Te gets one in the net... oops... it's VAZ TE in the net!!!!
80: Into the final eleven minutes and West Ham continue to create chances. This time Diame drives forward with purpose and finds Morrison. He plays in Rat, whose first-time cross takes a slight nick off a defender and eludes Vaz Te, who ends up in the net.

86: Liverpool and Fulham are being held by Notts County and Burton Albion respectively. The Reds were 2-0 up at Anfield, so that's some comeback from Big Sam's old club. Sunderland have equalised against MK Dons from 2-0 down.
maybe a straight forward but workmanlike victory isn't to be sniffed at...

three goals in the final three minutes see off what used to be something resembling wimbledon...

Re: West Ham vs Cheltenham 8/27/2013
Our first half was appalling......Apart from Vaz Te's free kick we hardly had a sniff.......They were really playing well, playing us off the park, then 2 things happened firstly after Diarra went down the the umpteenth time he was carried off on a stretcher and replaced by Diame and the half time whistle blew......Second half really only one team in the tie...Their defence was knackered and couldnt keep up with RVT's pace (to be fair their CB's looked like rugby players) Great goal by Ravel.........He plays a simple ball, will run at players, will shoot and also tracks back.......He played a stormer today! We also looked more dangerous with Downing on the pitch.......
One thing I will say though and that is I was very impressed by the Cheltenham fans.....They were in full voice throughout the game and put our fans to shame........They had quite a group turn up and they thoroughly enjoyed the occasion or at least sounded like they did!

Re: West Ham vs Cheltenham 8/27/2013
Was never a 2-1 game; we deserved a few more. Once again we looked largely untroubled at the back and, from the 40th minute onwards, we dominated in what was a very enjoyable performance involving some excellent passing moves. If it were not for their goalkeeper, we could have had 5 or 6 – he made excellent saves to tip a McCartney header onto the bar, turn a Collison effort over and push away a Vaz Te header, plus Taylor had an effort cleared off the line.
Morrison was fantastic – great feet, seems to make space for himself very easily and has a shot on him. Lovely goal. Vaz Te had a great second half, pulling their defenders across the park and making space for others. Superb free-kick too. I didn’t see the penalty incident as the entire group in the row in front (who weren’t supposed to be sitting there but saw it was free) returned from their pies 10/12 minutes into the second half and fans who had decided they were going to nick their seats (club employees judging by the shirt and club tie) then decided to move up into our row by climbing up (one of them almost using my dad’s knee as a step). All I saw was someone (Rat?) clear a ball off the line. Intensely irritating.
Adrian – 6 – impressive distribution, Reina-esque. Apparently at fault for the penalty but not much else to do.
Chambers – 6 – too short to be a modern-day centre-half and increasingly seems to be playing right-back, as he did last night. Little over 5’9 I’d say. Looked comfortable in possession.
Tomkins – 6 – comfortable on the ball, looked to play out from the back. Apparently involved in a mix-up with Adrian for the penalty. Not much defensive work to do.
McCartney – 6 – looked a bit rusty first half but reliable enough, as always. Great to see him back. Had a powerful header turned onto the bar.
Diarra – 4 – a couple of errors in possession but was mercilessly kicked by two Cheltenham players when clearly down injured. Showed heart to try to continue and showed good positional sense when covering ground in a screen for the full-backs. Will be needed in a few games this season but couldn’t show enough of himself last night due to a clear knock.
Collison – 6 – looked a little lost first half and passing was hit-and-miss. Asked to play the defensive role second half with Diame on, which is not his position. Almost got a goal though, but for a fine tip-over by their impressive goalkeeper.
Morrison – 8 – my Man of the Match. Fantastic second half. Looks a natural player, seemed to always have space and time, a sign of real quality. Played in some beautiful through-balls, a la Berkovic in his heyday. Wonderful goal to crown his night.
Cole – 6 – the most likely to unlock the door in the first half but Cheltenham were disciplined in the early stages. I’d imagine it was always the intention for Downing to get a half and for Cole, who had played the most minutes of the starting XI, to be replaced at half-time.
Vaz Te – 8 – superb free-kick that saw him visibly grow in confidence for the second half. Got in behind their defence a lot more and created opportunities. Has to start on Saturday in place of Maiga, simply for his movement.
Taylor – 6 – a willing performance, often involved. Came close with an early free-kick that was well held.
Subs:
Diame – 7 – upped the tempo when he came on, fired a couple of attempts over.
Downing – 7 – impressive again, looked to take on his full-back and deliver. As at Newcastle, he got in on the back post for crosses from the opposite flank and flashed a header just wide.

Re: West Ham vs Cheltenham 8/27/2013
Hi Dan
I though Diarra was a disgrace, running about like a headless chicken moaning when the opposition were too strong for him. Sorry mate but he needs to man up.
His 20 minutes consisted of running about ineffectually then falling over, complaining about a head injury and being bent double whilst in a wall prior to a free kick, running about ineffectually then falling over, complaining about a leg injury, running about ineffectually then getting stretchered off.
He is far far too light weight...

I did give him 4/10 Su! I do think he's better than what we saw last night, he was clearly struggling with a knock from the very early stages. I do think he'll be needed this season and he's not generally known as a lightweight player. I hope his injury is not too bad and that we see him back soon but I do agree that he was far from his best last night.

No complaints - these games are just banana skins, and not falling flat on your face is a result IMO.
And the treble is still on!!
