Demel steps down from international duties

good news for us

West Ham defender Guy Demel has announced his international retirement with the Ivory Coast, Sky Sports understands.

Demel has decided to quit the international scene so that he can concentrate on his club career with the Hammers.

The former Arsenal man has made 35 appearances for Ivory Coast since making his debut in 2004.

Demel was a part of the Ivory Coast squad that reached the 2006 and 2010 World Cup finals and he also helped them qualify for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.

News of Demel's decision to quit international football will come as a boost to West Ham boss Sam Allardyce as it means the defender will not travel for the Africa Cup of Nations in January.

Good on him if that the real reason he has decided to retire from international football , Its a shame that just as he finds some form he picks up silly injuries , I think he is a very good RB and makes our defence stronger IMO then what O`Brien does when he`s playing.

I like Demel, he gets forward well, has pace too. Also I don't think Joey has let us down either, we are probably fortunate to have both on board. Along with our good central defenders, we are well served right now. ( its why we are where we are in the league) Smile
