Although West Ham remain seven points clear of the relegation zone, boss Sam Allardyce must be concerned by their recent lack of form. The Hammers have quietly gone about collecting just five points from a possible 27, leaving them looking nervously over their shoulders. Opponents Swansea have been enjoying a memorable season and come into this contest on the back of a seven-game unbeaten run in the Premier League.
Michael Laudrup’s men have tasted defeat just once in eight top-flight trips, whilst they have not conceded more than a single goal in nine consecutive away games. Furthermore, a run of four clean sheets in six matches on their travels perfectly illustrates how hard the Swans are to break down. West Ham have been the epitome of inconsistency at Upton Park since the beginning of October, winning three, drawing three and losing three of their nine Premier League fixtures .
Both teams have found the net in each of the Hammers’ previous six top-flight home games and that sequence could well be extended here. Swansea have only netted from open play on their travels, whilst seven of the last nine goals conceded on their own patch by Allardyce’s men have come in this fashion. This is also the way in which the defences of the Welsh side tend to be breached on the road, with West Ham having scored seven of their previous ten at home from open play.
West Ham United FC
Andy Carroll will continue his return from injury when West Ham United host Swansea City in the Premier League on Saturday.
The on-loan Liverpool striker made his first appearance in two months after injury when appearing as a second-half substitute in Wednesday's 3-1 defeat by Fulham.
Manager Sam Allardyce will be without George McCartney (knee) and Daniel Potts (head injury).
Struggling West Ham will also be unable to call on Alou Diarra after the midfielder was loaned to Rennes on transfer deadline day.
Swansea
Star man Michu will have to carry Swansea's striking responsibility at West Ham after Danny Graham was sold to Sunderland on the final day of the transfer window.
Sixteen-goal Michu is therefore Michael Laudrup's main striking option after the club failed to bring in any cover on Thursday.
Capital One Cup finalists Swansea are still without Neil Taylor and Kemy Agustien due to ankle problems.
