Great stuff!! Three points, a clean sheet, no injuries - that's the way to start the season! From my comm it didn't sound like a classic, but you can only play what's in front of you and the sheep-shaggers sounded pretty dire. The comm reckoned Downing looked really good too... maybe I was wrong about him ( I've been wrong before!)
COME ON YOU IRONS!! ONWARDS AND UPWARDS!!

Just watching the game now .... live ..... must be a slow internet server here .... better than the 25 years behind that South Africa were when I got here 40 years ago this coming November.
Perhaps I had something to do with the catching up process ????
Not a chance :poopgym:

Haha......Notice I wasn't there, but then I ain't dodgy
Very happy with the result today, it was comfortable. Joey Cole was voted MOTM by some other mysterious sponsor type.
The away support were quiet. Their loudest shout was for a handball in the penalty area and for another penalty later on. I don't remember them having a shot on target, so they will need all the penalties they can get. They curiously use both hands to continually slap themselves on the head. According to todays programme, it's called the Ayatollah and was originally performed by a singer in a Welsh-language punk group, called U Thant. He had been inspired by footage of mourners at the funeral of Ayatollah Khomeini who slapped their own heads to express their grief at his death. Initially a sign of despair at the way their team were playing, it became popular with fans, and is now used in terms of celebration and support for the team! Fuppin weirdos!
Anyway, back to the game. I was surprised to see Rat and Downing on the bench. Defence didn't have much to do, but when called upon, Reid and Ginge got stuck in...some crunching blocks from the pair. Noble seemed to be in more of a defensive role, and played the part well I thought. Considering the time it took to get the second goal, I'm even more surprised that Downing wasn't put on sooner. I never realised how fast he is.......too fast for Maiga that's for sure. He was way out of his depth and it showed I'm afraid. Joe Cole was totally committed, him on the left wing and Downing on the right is most certainly a mouthwatering prospect and they should both start next week.
Causes for concern .... none until we have to play the bigger boys. Then we'll need Carroll fighting fit, obviously we could still do with another striker.
Encouraging signs ... Still playing as a team, but with quite a few individual skills showing through where necessary.
Continuing mystery ... Why is Diame still being subbed with 10 minutes to go?
Disappointment ... Maiga not continuing his pre-season form and Morrison not being given the chance today, to continue his.
With comparatively easier games, barring Everton, and up until we travel to shite hart lane at the beginning of October, we have a team who should accumulate enough points to give us a cushion to fall back on. DO IT !!

Re: West Ham United FC v Cardiff
Is it me or does that sound a bit like the start to last season Oh Jiggly One? Did well then fell on our faces and spent the rest of our season trying, eventually succeeding, to get it up there?
