British through and through Empty British through and through

Post  Admin Thu 16 Jan 2014, 5:14 pm

I am a British national. Therefore, British achievements are integral to my identity as a British citizen.
The historical achievements of this land must be promoted in order to instil a sense of belonging in newcomers. For far too long British achievements have not been promoted in schools and further education, because celebrating all that we have done within our own nation and the expertise that we have exported has become an issue. Of course our contribution to literature, industry and political structures of government have been applauded and celebrated in the past, however we have an identity crisis where far too much weight has been placed on not promoting our self-belief in Britain because it is seen as domination: to the liberal thinkers this can be seen as a reminder of the Empire.
As a British Indian I am very proud of what we have achieved in the fields of engineering and education. Other nations want to have systems like ours where accountability and democracy are clearly at the epicentre of public scrutiny; so it should be, however many nations don’t enjoy these key fundamental components of a democratic society.  We should be proud of our unitary systems of government and our contribution to the development of politics that we have given to the world. The sad factor is that we British have been made to feel we must surrender and not be proud because it is seen as an act of domination and making others feel inferior.
Multiculturalism and Political Correctness has clearly had a role in making the people of this land feel guilty of their past and it has resulted in appeasement towards certain communities and this clearly is wrong to make people who belong to this land feel guilty, and in many cases feel like a minority in their own nation. I am not in support of multiculturalism where it allows dominance to take effect and does not allow integration to take place through having a fear of belonging to Britain; only a uni-culture can do this effectively and encompass the respect of other cultures and faiths without making others feel they are insignificant. We need to oppose the gagging of our democracy where people cannot feel that they can say anything about cultural practices that are not conducive to our way of life. Our way of life represents and supports freedom, however if a practice or cultural behaviour is not conducive or fiercely opposed to our democratic values and to the law of this land, we have every right to oppose it without being called racist.
Sadly we have been made to feel that we cannot say a thing to anyone and multiculturalism has had a huge part to play in this ethos. A uni-culture would promote free speech without fear of offending and allow people to feel British and most of all contribute towards democracy without being made to feel guilty or scared of saying something that is clearly in defence of our values. Celebrating diversity has not allowed us to see through the smokescreen, there are practices like the social apartheid system of caste discrimination that has been imported into the UK from the Indian sub-continent and female genital mutilation that has been hidden under the guise of multiculturalism.
Why are we not allowed to speak up about these issues without the fear of losing our jobs and being called racist? This clearly is wrong, we need a uniculture to create greater cohesion amongst all of our people in this land and we must not allow our social, industrial, educational and political achievements to be rated as second class just so that we are not seen to offend others.
Multiculturalism has left us confused and worst of all separated us; both indigenous British and British ethnic minorities have been made to feel very distant from their nationality. Sadly, multiculturalism has mixed up nationality and ethnicity, thus the reason for certain people within our society who believe in multicultural practices have made many not feel British.  We need to unify this nation and celebrate our achievements in full and return us all to our patriotic British sense of belonging; we will all get on better if we see the colour of our flag not the colour of our ethnic makeup, which is clearly what multiculturalism has focused upon for far too long.
We should make it totally clear that our freedom of speech is not up for negotiation. It is our birth right and we will never surrender it to anyone who wants to use multiculturalism as a form of dominance where one culture believes that it has greater place in society over our democratic values. There must be no attempt to hinder our values or put them in second place to any culture that believes it has priority over our social, political and educational components that are the foundations of our way of life.
