Ba and Da Hammer are history Empty Ba and Da Hammer are history

Post  Geezer Tue 14 Jun 2011, 7:58 am

Demba Ba and Thomas Hitzlsperger have activated relegation clauses in their contracts at West Ham United allowing them to leave this summer on free transfers, while Scott Parker has formally told the club that he definitely wants to go also.

Parker has already turned down a move to the Turkish club Fenerbahce, who are the only club to have so far bid for the England midfielder, and wants to remain in the Premier League.

Offers are expected from Tottenham Hotspur and, possibly, Arsenal, while Liverpool made a tentative inquiry for the 30 year-old but are no longer believed to be interested. A stumbling block is that, given his age, clubs are reluctant to pay the £8 million-£10 million being demanded by West Ham for the player who has three years left on his contract.

It had been thought that Ba would join Newcastle United this week but they are facing strong competition from Everton, although they are less willing to pay the £46,000-a-week being demanded by the 26-year-old Senegalese striker.

West Ham have already reported Sunderland to the Premier League claiming they made an illegal approach for Ba — which is hotly denied — but cannot stop him leaving for free once he activated the clause. Ba’s history of failed medical may prove a problem for some clubs and his deal to West Ham was complicated by his injury record.

Hitzlsperger joined West Ham on a free transfer from Lazio last summer, on a three-year deal, but the midfielder’s season was decimated by injury. The 29-year-old German international is understood to earn £45,000-a-week and although he can also leave on a free it’s understood that manager Sam Allardyce is less concerned about his departure.

Allardyce is quickly assessing the West Ham squad with bids already made for Newcastle United midfielder Kevin Nolan and a £1.25 million offer for Blackpool striker DJ Campbell, which also activates a relegation clause allowing him to speak to other clubs.

It’s understood that West Ham will have to significantly raise their offer for Nolan to interest Newcastle — a fee of £4 million has been mooted — while Campbell is reluctant to play in the Championship having had a successful season in the top-flight.

West Ham are also considering moves for a number of experienced players who are available on ‘Bosman’ rulings have seen their contracts expire including the experienced Ricardo Gardner, who worked under Allardyce at Bolton Wanderers’, as they desperately try and ensure an immediate return to the Premier League.

West Ham also expect Matthew Upson, Robert Green, who has interested Aston Villa, and Carlton Cole — wanted by Queens Park Rangers, West Bromwich Albion and Stoke City — to leave during this transfer window as they rebuild their squad and reduce their wage bill.

Let them go, if they dont have the balls to stick about and get us out of a position that they got us into then they dont think much of West Ham United Football Club. We need people who want to play and give their all for us, not the kind of people who do a runner as soon as the going gets tough.

    All bullshit speculation. Probably!!

I really cannot see us signing someone in January when we were in the bottom three and giving them a relegation release clause of £0. It would be stupid to do so if we spent £2-5m on him? And whatever you think of GaS they aint stupid businessmen!

And also the inclusion of Upson in that list just shows the scrambling around for "big" names to hammer home the writers point-he's already left!

As Scott says; no point keeping or whinging about a player who wants away either.

Well what a surprise. He will have to realise he is only ever going to get a pay as you play contract anywhere - Cant see anyone offering him a better deal than us to be honest. If he don't want it - well sod him!

It looks as though the near-certain deal to bring Demba Ba to Newcastle may not be so near-certain after all.

Speaking to the BBC, Alan Pardew has revealed that the deal has hit a snag thanks to the well-known medical issues that the player has and that a deal is still some way off being concluded thanks to some “big hurdles” that need to be overcome before the Senegalese international can sign on the dotted line.

“There is an issue about his medical, and there has been in the past,” Pardew told BBC Newcastle. “We’ve got to overcome those things, but hopefully he can join the club. I think he’ll be a big success.”

Pardew added: “He’s a player that has a natural eye for a goal, my connections at West Ham are very good and I know everything about him.”

“I’m pretty relaxed that he can be a success at Newcastle if we can get him but it’s a big if at the moment because there are some big hurdles to get across.”

What isn’t quoted is the fact that apparently Ba’s condition is, ahem “manageable”, although quite how manageable a degenerative bone disease can be is something that is what beyond my knowledge base. Is there a doctor in the house?

Clearly there are concerns over the medical condition of the player which will of course raise further questions about the wisdom of the move. What I will say though is that despite his apparent fragility he is yet to suffer a real serious injury. I guess this is what the medical is there to look at, so they can reasonably judge the risk of something happening.

So to me the moves look it may not go ahead after all, despite Pardew’s positivity about the situation. I mean lets face it, he hardly has a good track record of getting his own way now does he? And if the deal looks like it will backfire on the club you can be certain that plug will be pulled along with the rug that is underneath the manager.

I do hope something can be sorted though. A look at Demba Ba’s goalscoring record will show you that he can finish and knows where the back of the net is. We need a goalscorer. It’s a match made in heaven.

That's exactly what I said cheesey grin Somehow this has to be linked to the Nolan transfer. Newcastle doesnt seem the most likely place for him to go.
