Arsenal V West Ham United FC
Arsenal will be aiming to continue their fine pre-season form when they start their 2015/16 Premier League campaign at home to West Ham.
The Gunners won all five of their pre-season matches, including a 1-0 win over Chelsea in the Community Shield last weekend – Arsene Wenger’s first ever victory against Jose Mourinho.
Arsenal finished 12 points behind champions Chelsea in the 14/15 campaign but have strengthened this summer by signing keeper Petr Cech from the Blues.
The Hammers should be well prepared for the opening day as they have already been playing competitive football for over a month.
Slaven Bilic’s side saw their participation in the Europa League come to an end on Thursday evening as they were [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.].
A number of first-team players were left at home for the match ahead of the start of the Premier League.
Team news
Jack Wilshere will miss the match after [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] that could keep him out for a month.
Alexis Sanchez, who only recently returned to training after his Copa America exploits for Chile, is also out while Danny Welbeck and Tomas Rosicky are both unavailable through injury.
Winston Reid, Joey O’Brien and Pedro Obiang are all struggling with knocks for the Hammers while Carl Jenkinson is ineligible to play against his parent club.
Merson's prediction
West Ham will have played their Europa League game against Astra in Romania and I thought Arsenal were very good in the Emirates Cup and against Chelsea in the Community Shield.
I just don't see how West Ham can hurt or stop Arsenal at the Emirates, I really don't. Even if they manage to hold on until the 60th minute with the score goalless, they could still end up losing the game by three or four goals.
PAUL PREDICTS: 3-0 ([You must be registered and logged in to see this link.])
Stats
Arsenal are unbeaten in 14 Premier League meetings (W12, D2) against West Ham – winning the last nine.
West Ham have scored first in four of the last six meetings and gone on to lose all four.
Arsenal have won one of their last five opening fixtures (D3, L1) – but have lost only one of the last 14 (W9, D4).
The 2015/16 season will be Arsene Wenger's 20th in charge of Arsenal.
Kevin Nolan is set to make 400th career Premier League appearance and is also on 99 career league goals.

Re: Arsenal V West Ham United FC
As much as I would like us to start the season off with 3 points I really cant see us beating Arsenal and if I`m being totally honest I cant even see us getting a point Sunday as even with the fact they will be missing Wilshere, Sanchez and Welbeck Sunday they still have the likes of Giroud and Walcott both of who seem to like scoring against us
If I was Bilic going into my first ever premier league game as our manager I would go with :
Adrian
O`Brien
Tomkins*
Ogbonna
Cresswell
Kouyate
Noble
Payet
Jarvis
Sakho
Zarate
SUBS: Randolph, Reid* , Samuelson , Nolan , Maiga , Lanzini , Oxford
* If Reid is fit then swap with Tomkins

And me......I'll be amazed if we score, and even more amazed if we keep a clean sheet. What I'm hoping for is some semblance of a team structure and a game plan that might begin to give me some confidence in Bilic as a manager. The owners ditched BFS before they had their replacement secured and I reckon Bilic was third choice at best, so we are on thin ice IMO. For the club's sake I hope I'm wrong and the man is competent enough to keep us in the PL.
Anyway, anything's possible until they start playing, so COME ON YOU IRONS!!!!

Paid out for the now TV day pass (£6.99) so I could watch this one properly on the TV. Looking forward to this and hoping for a point but not much more. Certainly need at least 8/9 excellent performances from the 11 to get much. Should all be out there to impress the new gaffer

Carragger and souness very surprised at oxfords inclusion in the team. They feel he must be too young and experienced for such a big test. Time will tell I suppose

Re: Arsenal V West Ham United FC
I don't want to be negative... I want this to be the dawn of a great new era...
but I agree... they got rid of BFSA and there's no way Bilic was first or even really second choice as the man to replace him...
we've put in a bunch of really poor performances in Europe... we got beaten by a team in Malta... we gave up 2 goals in each game against the Romanians... and neither game was anything like a comfortable or consistent performance...
we haven't won away from home since february (not to mention how awful the 2nd half of last season was)
we haven't beaten Arsenal in 9 attempts, nine years... nine lifetimes...
So... heading in... things do not look good (especially when Arsenal had a perfect pre-season and beat Chelsea last weekend)
but this is football.
The last time we had a perfect pre-season we got relegated.
Reece Oxford starts in midfield
Ogbonna makes his debut in central defense...
Nolan is on the bench, Noble on the right of a three man midfield.
Up top we got Sakho and Zarate with the majority of the service coming from new boy Payet
Please let this go well...

Whatever happens I'm looking forward to it, specially seeing payet up front, and even zarate I feel may come good for us.

Noble booked...
slipped and gave the ball away...
chopped down the player picking up on the error...
well done captain...

Re: Arsenal V West Ham United FC
Payet and ogbonna (after 45 mins) look too very good signings.
Oxford has quietly gone about his business of protecting the back 4 against a very skillfull and experienced midfield.
Few too many 'solid' (clumsy) tackles for my liking (noble could have been given a warning to be fair) but enjoying the determination.
Arsenal looked dangerous on occasion but for the most part it's been a good 50/50 split
A happy hammer here so far

Re: Arsenal V West Ham United FC
awesome little moment from Zarate....
the much maligned player tries to get the ball after Cresswell runs into the box and loses possession.
everyone figures the ball will just get played out of defense...
but then Zarate makes the decision to actually try to win back possession
He gets the ball off a defenders feet... turns and figures why not... so he shoots into the bottom left corner of the net... goalie and defense just stand watching as Zarate puts us two up
NOW CAN WE HOLD ON??????
the next thirty minutes will be squeaky bum time...

Re: Arsenal V West Ham United FC
67 minutes gone...
Zarate swapped out for Jarvis (obvious change that was always going to come... but nervous about our three players on yellow cards that are still on the pitch)
Walcott is on and so is Sanches... Are have got nothing left to throw at us but this is a top side we're playing against...
68 1/2 minutes gone...

Re: Arsenal V West Ham United FC
there'll be a good bit of injury time...
Noble got a bit of treatment and Tomo and Giroud are down with head injuries...
both are back on their feet but too looks groggy...
Nolan is warming up... to come on... not sure for whom...
13 minutes plus injury time to hold onto this

I don't think anyone did
Arsenal haven't been good... but that shouldn't detract from our players by and large doing what needs to be done.
But beating Arsenal for the first time in seven years or so is a big boost to us

Re: Arsenal V West Ham United FC
1 mintes of injury time to go...
over all... after an not the best first half ever...
but a clean sheet - which is great
ending a recent hoodoo
Poyet looks very good
Ogbonna looked solid after a nervy start
but the whistle has gone...
Well done all concerned

Re: Arsenal V West Ham United FC
excellent result.
Oxford just 16 , looked the part today , excellent show from one so young
massive amount of closing down (at the right time and place)
Foxes next and they will be buzzing from the way they played yesterday

apart from us... who'd have thought that a West Ham vs. Leicester game would be looking like the game of the week...
so long as Man City and Liverpool don't win or lose by huge amounts...
the Hammers vs Foxes could be an early season top of the table clash

I am duly amazed... in fact I think I may have inadvertently slipped into some sort of parallel universe.
Someone remind me to write some similar pessimistic bollox next week, please......
Deep joy!!
