Best game at the boleyn that you have seen?

As the club are running loads of things to commemorate the last season there,  whats your favourite game in the time you have been following the mighty Irons? 

A few that spring to my mine are 

Vs Eintracht Frankfurt in 1976 ECWC SF,  sir Trevor scoring two,  the whole ground rocking,  wonderful night

Vs Ipswich in the play off SF the atmosphere was incredible, 

Vs Stoke City in the League Cup SF when Gordan Banks saved a Geoff Hurst penalty for them to beat us 2-1 and go on to the two replays at Hillsboro and old Traffod

Vs Aston Villa 6th rd FA cup when Ray Stewart scored a 90th min penalty to put us in the SF


Vs Coventry city youth in the FA youth cup final when we won 6-0, with the likes of Cole and Carrick in the side and the place was jammed I

Always wish I'd have been at that semi final play off, atmosphere just sounds amazing. 

I think u never forget your first game, which was a 1-0 loss to Man Utd

The 3-0 Ian Pearce victory over lids was a very special one for me

And the first game back 3-1 vs Blackburn with a NRC belter sticks in my mind

First game a 1-0 win over Man City with a Ray Stewart penalty back in 86, some bloke in front of us spent the game swearing which me, only being 9 and me bro found hilarious.

I seem to remember a memorable game against Barnsley where we went 2-0 down only to turn it round 3-2 when I was still a youngster as well.

So many great memories from my season ticket years as well, beating yids last game of the season, the last minute winner by Noble to beat Liverpool, a couple of victories against Man U, Harewoods winner against Arsenal......probably loads more I cant remember as well

One that springs to mind immediately is the first game after we signed Hartson, Kitson and Lomas in 1997. We played Spurs on a windy, rainy evening. Hartson destroyed Sol Campbell and we won 4-3. It was the start of a great escape

My first game was in the 80's (Cottee and McAvennie era) but the day I remember most was more recently when Di Canio came on as sub to score against Chelsea at Upton Park. We needed a win to give ourselves a fighting chance and the emotion hit fever level when the great man scored (his last goal?) with about 13 minutes to go. Lampard nearly equalised but for a great save from James(?)

Later that evening the elation I experienced was shattered when Southampton (I think) failed to beat Bolton or something like that.

My favourite international was Ireland V's Holland at Landsdowne Road when our 10 men beat a Louis Van Gaal led dutch team by the only goal of the game. Holland had Jimmy Floyd Hasselbanl, Van Nistleroy and Kluivert, as part of a 5 man forward line at one stage. Yes, even back then he was a tactical genius!! Richard Dunne was simply emense.

Cork City game has to be a 2-1 win at Shelbourne when we scored a 94th minute winner to snatch the Champioship from their hands. They had buckets of champagne at the edge of their dug out. I was hoarse for a week!

first game 1968 ...home v Man U and got stuffed 6-1 ...and I was hooked .... best games seen .....Ipswich in the play off semis ... Dynamo Tiblisi smashed us 4-1 .... only time I have seen the crowd stay and applaud the opposition off the field ... they were poetry ..... and that hurst banks stoke game was tense

FA cup final 2006 , that was our cup and we deserved it , kin Gerraaaaaarrrrrrrdddddd ...... great day out  , great company . should of been at Wemberly though

My first v Newcastle in 1966  ..... We won 3-0.  My fate was sealed.

Eintracht Frankfurt in 1976. Under the lights, always amazing but this one was extra special.


One against Manc United and we had to win to stay up.  Gordon Hill scored in about 25 seconds. Final score was 4-2 win for us.....When the fourth goal, scored by Pop, Pop, Pop, Pop, Pop Robson went in, I was too exhausted to jump up with the rest of us and nearly got trampled underfoot.


Lasagnagate ........ We had a meet up with glorious extra time in the supporters club. Oh yes, extra pissing it up, because the yids team were late, due to the night before, heaving multicoloured yawns down the toilet ... Levy tried and failed to get the game postponed and threatened to call the Police. Meanwhile. their supporters were convinced that Arsenal were to blame  


I can't even say it was a good match, but the banter was fantastic, letting them know every time Arsenal scored. Even when Judas equalised it didn't seem to matter. It made our winner sweeter though and so overly celebrated. 

Seen many good games but as has been said the one that stands out for me as Eintracht Frankfurt in 1976.

I remember the North Bank turnstiles shut as I wa sin the queue so I ran round to the South Bank and got in there. Stood towards the back, only time I've ever been in the South Bank but it was rocking!

Best night ever at UP...

As a fan from the premier league era, what's the north south significance? I know south became Bobby and north the sir Trevor. I'm guessing it might be related to most passionate fan area?

Norf bank was where every player who joined us from another club stood when he was a boy to watch his heroes. Sarf was the 'away' end, when I first went it also was home to the 'mile end mob', an early incarnation of the ICF.
Norf bank was always our 'end', and it seemed strange to me that the club swopped it round?
