Re: Silly Season Summer 2012
As opposed to our five season wonder if he'll score consistently or bounce the ball 30 yards with his first touch?
Kevin Davies it is then! Or Joe Jordan out of retirement. Beggers can't be choosers-no consistent target man is within our financial reach. I just worry everyone is tainted by Cole's third of a season resurgence, getting rewarded with a £30k plus contract and reverting to a tree that can't trap a bag of cement!

Re: Silly Season Summer 2012
I'd take Holt, but for no more than £2m. Big, strong and knows where the goal is. He wouldn't be a certain starter, I'm too much of a fan of Carlton Cole. (I personally find all this 'Tree' nonsense very disrespectful to a good, talented player and man who clearly loves the club - can we say that about every player who's pulled on the claret and blue in the last 5 years or so?)
I'd have Holt and I'd take a punt on Wigan's Hugo Rodallega on a free as well. That would give us:
Big guys/target men - Cole and Holt
Second striker/wide forwards for 4-3-3 - Rodallega and Vaz Te
Small poachers - Baldock and Maynard.
All equals lots of options, which you need up front in the PL.

Re: Silly Season Summer 2012
Well he has scored a few goals for the canaries this last season , probably as many as CC , cant say I know too much about him but he looks like a big lump and could probably hold his own against defenders . With you on the CC thing Dan , he is a West Ham man and looked to be over the moon about helping us back to the Prem and really deserves some slack

Re: Silly Season Summer 2012
Scored 60 in 120 games for Norwich, albeit mostly in lower divisions.
Dan you go most games so bow to your experience first hand but surely it is hugely apparent he is a confidence player with a dodgy first touch even when confident. I don't think anyone doubts his blood, sweat and tears input-though more so when confidence is flowing-and loves it. I agree flippancy is a fans worst trait (along with fickleness!) And I don't think we could attract or afford much better-Holt is realistic, I feel and we do need that alternative for Sam's system.

Re: Silly Season Summer 2012
Hi JDLK - I totally agree he is a confidence player which is why he needs support and encouragement rather than mickey-taking. He always appears to play better away from home when the fans sing his name no matter what. Unfortunately there are idiots around me at Upton Park who boo his name if it gets read out after he's scored! Come to think of it, that's probably why I'm so defensive of the bloke! His first touch when fit and confident is actually pretty good and he can shield the ball from three or four opponents when he's 'on it'. There are occasions though, when not fit and isolated in certain systems, that he can lose possession. My main bone of contention is when fans call him 'lazy' - I've rarely seen a player chase and hurry defenders as much, which is a big part of Sam's pressing game. Perhaps in the last season he has looked a little languid at times (I recall Leicester away when he clearly wasn't fit) but this is more down to a need for fitness preservation than attitude.
I digress - I agree we definitely need a Holt-type in the squad, especially now Carew has gone. Cole will not play a whole season with his knee and we are threadbare on alternatives. I think Holt would be a good bet, but we really need to get in quick while uncertainty surrounds Norwich as a club.

hammers bid £7 million for Dost
West Ham have confirmed to ESPN that they have made a £7 million offer for Heerenveen hotshot Bas Dost.
Dost, 22, was top scorer in the Eredivisie this season, with his 32 goals in 34 games helping Heerenveen to a fifth-place finish and qualification for the Europa League.
Having led the Hammers back to the Premier League at the first attempt through the play-offs last week, Sam Allardyce is now keen to bolster his squad ahead of their return to the top flight.
And the Dutchman, who was tipped to make Bert van Marwik's Netherlands squad for Euro 2012 but surprisingly failed to even make the 30-man preliminary shortlist, is Allardyce's top target.
6ft 4in Dost would help strengthen the Hammers' striking options, with Carlton Cole and Ricardo Vaz Te the club's main attacking threat at present, with Nicky Maynard the chief back-up.

West Ham considering making a move for football bad boy
Disgraced Queens Park Rangers captain Joey Barton is being eyed by newly-promoted West Ham as Sam Allardyce tries to make him move from South London to the East. Barton is banned for 12 games following a skirmish at Man City on the final day of the season. The midfielder received a red card for attacking Carlos Tevez and his subsequent actions led to the FA clamping down on the 29 year old.
But Sam Allardyce isn’t worried about his antics though as he plans to make a bid for the troubled midfielder. ‘Big Sam’ will also be aware that he will miss 1/3rd of the season due to the suspension, which is a significant portion for a team looking to stay in the Premier League, Allardyce has previously worked with a number of troubled stars, mainly during his time at Bolton. But Barton is unlikely to make the same impact on the pitch as say a Jay-Jay Okacha or Nicolas Anelka.
Rangers have lost patience with Barton and could offload the former Man City and Newcastle played this summer. Mark Hughes masterminded their narrow survival last year and he will have to add to his squad to prevent a repeat. Barton isn’t likely to feature in Sparky’s plan, with owner Tony Fernandes also expected to back the manager with respect to the violent midfielder.

Re: Silly Season Summer 2012
Paper talk I am sure. Unless his fee is £0 then Sam would be mad to waste £40k plus on him. Especially as only available for two thirds of the league season let QPR pay his wages and anyone wanting him can pick him up in January.
DG tweeted a week ago, no chance of Barton at West Ham
