Signed a new 8 year contract at Newcastle

Newcastle boss Alan Pardew has signed a contract extension that will keep him at the club until 2020.

Pardew originally signed a five-and-a-half year deal when he succeeded Chris Hughton in December 2010.

However, the 51-year-old has been rewarded for guiding Newcastle to fifth place in last season's Premier League and a spot in the Europa League.

Pardew was named the manager of the 2011-12 season by both the Premier League and League Managers Association.

He became the first Englishman to win both awards in the same season.

Newcastle, who had been expected to struggle after narrowly avoiding relegation the season before, won 19 of their 38 league games, keeping 15 clean sheets.

That's a long old contract...I can't help but wonder if they worried about Alan finding his way to OT when fergie retires and have thus locked him in...

Women's retirement age went down to 60 Stu, and then back up to 65....But that's not enough an age for anyone now, allegedly.

    From the Government website
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

    Current State Pension age
For men born before 6 December 1953, the current State Pension age is 65.

For women born after 5 April 1950 but before 6 December 1953, their State Pension age is between 60 and 65.

Increase in State Pension age to 66
Under the Pensions Act 2011 women’s State Pension age will increase more quickly to 65 between April 2016 and November 2018. From December 2018 the State Pension age for both men and women will start to increase to reach 66 in October 2020.

These changes affect you if you're:

•a woman born on or after 6 April 1953
•a man born on or after 6 December 1953
The current law already provides for the State Pension age to increase to:

    •67 between 2034 and 2036
    •68 between 2044 and 2046

However, the government announced on 29 November 2011 that State Pension age will now increase to 67 between 2026 and 2028. This change is not yet law and will require the approval of Parliament.

Changes to the planned increase in State Pension ageThe government is also considering how to make sure State Pension age continues to keep pace with increases in life expectancy. The government will bring forward proposals in due course.

I heard something on the radio about them also considering redirecting money from our kids wages into private pension schemes. No choice in the matter.

It's a bloody joke, they should be thinking of retiring us at, ok 65, and freeing up jobs for the kids, that have never worked!

I think compulsory pension schemes are a great idea. Not only are you saving to ensure that you do not struggle in your retirement you are taking burden away from the state - and let's face it the state pension is pish anyway

In addition your employer has to match your contributions

    Win/Win

Alright if you are earning more than the minimum wage and that's all employers are prepared to pay in this climate. Under 21 and it's less. No-one wants to think of retirement at that age!!

Then there's the unfortunate people, that will not live until 68 or 70. They'll leave pensions for their loved ones of course, after it's been taxed to the hilt.

No wonder the Government make so many mistakes, and chuck our money about like they do, when they can just invent another way or tax to get it back from Joe Public tantrum

That is the best time to start Jiggs. At a young age you can start off investing very small amounts and just keep it index-linked and hopefully wages rise in line with the RPI. Simples !

Maybe so. Or maybe they could end up being half what they were worth 10 years previously, as was the case for my husband.
